Bobbi Brown has revealed the sweet gesture that she received from the Princess of Wales following her royal wedding.
Rumour had it at the time that Kate did her makeup on her wedding day in April 2011, impressing millions of fans all over the world when she stepped out at Westminster Abbey with a perfect look that radiated bridal beauty.
However, makeup artist Bobbi, 68, from Chicago, recently said that it was one of her artists, Hannah Martin, who created Kate’s magical look – all while using products from her eponymous brand.
Talking in an episode of Breaking Beauty alongside podcast hosts Carlene Higgins and Jill Dunn, Bobbi explained, ‘I did not do her makeup. I wish I did. It was one of my artists, Hannah Martin, who’s become quite a sensation in the UK.’
And after the event, she received a special note from one of Kate’s employees, expressing the royal’s appreciation for Bobbi’s products.
She said, ‘I did get a note though, that I have hanging now in my office, not from Kate, but from the person that wrote her letters saying how much she appreciated the makeup.’
Co-host Jill went on to ask Bobbi about the rumours of Kate doing her wedding day makeup, ‘But at the time, in the press, we were led to believe that she had done her own makeup.’
Bobbi explained that it was Hannah’s work, continuing, ‘No, Hannah did her makeup. Hannah did give me some information that I should set my alarm and watch. And we were texting back and forth, and she’s like, ‘Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god’.

The makeup artist, whose philosophy is based upon enhancing natural beauty rather than masking it, added that her brand chose against claiming Kate’s look because it wasn’t the done thing at the time.
‘We didn’t as a company use it, no one did that back then. It wasn’t the right thing to do.’
It comes after Bobbi revealed why she has decided against getting Botox or fillers during the first episode of LYMA’s Powerful Women YouTube series.
Its founder Lucy Goff spoke to US-born Bobbi in what was described as ‘an unfiltered conversation about why she refuses to alter her face, what real beauty actually looks like, and how she keeps her mind and body ageless’.
Bobbi found success in the 1990s, when she was known as the artist behind some of the most famous faces of that decade, including Carla Bruni, Cindy Crawford, and Christy Turlington.
Her philosophy of enhancing natural beauty rather than masking it was hugely influential in the industry.
Speaking earlier this month, Bobbi explained, ‘It’s amazing what plastic surgery can do, but I think, in general, why change the shape and size of your lips, for example, because someone else has fuller lips it’s not necessarily going to look right on you.’
‘I’m 68 and people say to me that I look good, and I think that’s because I haven’t done all kinds of things to my skin and I see a lot of women where, even just putting cheek implants into their face just doesn’t look right, something looks wrong.’

She added that the most powerful thing she does every day is exercise with weight-lifting, Pilates, walking and dance.
‘By moving my body like a younger person, my mind works like a younger person, I hang out with some of my team who are in their twenties, and we go to class together,’ she said.
Bobbi founded her original eponymous cosmetics business in 1991, before selling it to Estee Lauder in 1995.
The line is reportedly used by the Princess of Wales, who has been pictured in a lipstick from the brand’s the Luxe Lipstick range in a shade called Sandwash Pink.
After selling her company, Bobbi established a new range of cosmetics, Jones Road, in 2020.
Speaking about the impact of celebrity aesthetics on young people, Bobbi added, ‘Real beauty is, the women I see on the street or in the store – they’re real.
‘They’re not spending six hours in the gym, two hours with a makeup artist every day or getting a blow out every day.
‘Real is going to pick up their kid at day-care and they have two seconds to look good.
‘That’s real beauty to me and that’s much more of what I relate to.’
She also shared her thoughts when it comes to the ‘biggest mistake she sees midlife women make with their makeup’.
‘I think that people don’t realise that make up is really there to make you look better not worse, and a lot of traditional make up is just not very flattering on women of a certain age.’
That logic inspired the way she made her Jones Road line, she said, ‘ When I set out to create Jones Road it was about things that instantly look good on you and you put them on and you’re like ‘my god, I just look so much better’.
‘There’s nothing more powerful than being able to make yourself look better because then you will feel better, and it goes hand-in-hand.
‘If you want to know what makes me feel powerful, it’s the ability to create products and teach people how to use them so you just don’t look tired, and you don’t look made up.’
