Why Aussies have dubbed this spectacular sandbar with crystal white sand and sparkling blue water ‘paradise on earth’

  • A beach three hours’ drive north of Sydney has been dubbed ‘paradise on earth’
  • Cellito Beach, on NSW’s Mid-North Coast, boasts world-class surf, sand and sea
  • The sandbar looks more like a Caribbean island than a spot in regional Australia
  • Photos of the beach have drawn stunned responses on social media
  • One woman said she would love to be there and called it ‘paradise on earth’

A breathtaking Australian beach renowned for its world-class surf has been dubbed ‘paradise on earth’.

Cellito Beach, three hours’ drive north of Sydney on the NSW Mid North Coast, is a spectacular sandbar that has long captivated travellers with its crystal white sand and sparkling turquoise water.

Overlooking the iconic Sugarloaf Lighthouse of Seal Rocks, the thin stretch of sand looks more like the tropical Caribbean than a coastal spot in regional Australia.

The beach can be accessed by walking along an enchanting boardwalk under a canopy of cabbage palms, which ends with a small wooden platform that captures sweeping views of the ocean below.

Visitors can also take 4WDs onto the southern end of the beach next to Smiths Lake, which offers a variety of water sports and fishing.

Cellito also secured a place in the Australian country music hall of fame when it was chosen as filming location for the video of Daryl Braithwaite’s classic hit, The Horses.

Australian photographer Mark Fitz, who was named Comedy Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2020, said the beach is an incredible site to shoot.

‘Occasionally the entrance between the lake and the ocean is opened up and it creates amazing photo opportunities,’ he said.

Instagram photos of the stunning scenery have drawn hundreds of amazed responses, with comments including ‘beautiful’, ‘wow’ and ‘what insane colours’.

‘Paradise on earth! Would love to be there,’ one woman wrote.

A second added: ‘What an amazing place, just incredible.’
