The Los Angeles Chargers are positioned better than any other team in the NFL for free agency.

They have the highest amount of salary cap space in the league with just under $100 million. The Chargers have plenty of roster holes to fill at positions groups such as defensive line, offensive line, and wide receiver.

Los Angeles is expected to make several big splash signings to strengthen its roster and make a deep postseason run in 2026. The free agent legal tampering period begins on Monday, which means teams can agree to contracts with free agent players, but those deals don’t become official until the start of the new league year on Wednesday, March 11.

Los Angeles Chargers Predicted to Sign WR Mike Evans in Free Agency

The Chargers will likely look to add a little more juice to their passing attack, pairing Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston with another top shelf wide receiver. While making their final predictions on top free agent signings throughout the league, the folks over at Bleacher Report had Evans landing in Los Angeles.

“Of all the players on this list, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is the most likely to stay put. After all, Evans has spent his entire 12-year career in Tampa. He has tallied 11 1,000-yard seasons with the team. Won a Super Bowl. A quarterback Evans can believe in? May we present Justin Herbert, who most people with functioning eyes would say is an upgrade over Baker Mayfield. A chance at a Super Bowl? The Chargers have been a playoff team three of the past four seasons.

“A top shelf offensive coordinator? Mike McDaniel may have flamed out as the head coach in Miami, but he remains one of the league’s better offensive minds. High-volume touches? The Chargers have Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnson, but the Bolts need a true “X” receiver. The Chargers also have one more thing that could appeal to Evans—with just over $99 million in cap space, no team has more cash to spend in free agency.”

Chargers, Mike Evans Could Be Perfect Fit for Each Other

Evans has been a model of consistency since he entered the NFL back in 2014. He crossed the 1,000-yard receiving mark in all each of his first 11 seasons as a professional, tying Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice for the most ever consecutively. That streak came to an end for Evans last season as he missed nine games due to various injuries.

However, injuries have not been a concern for him throughout his career, never missing more than four games in a season prior to 2025. Evans is a six-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro, and Super Bowl champion. He ranks 10th all-time in receiving touchdowns with 108, and is just on the outside looking in on the top 20 in receiving yards with 13,052.

At 32 years old, Evans may begin to slow down a bit, but should remain one of the best redzone and third down targets in the NFL. Coming to a team like the Chargers would be beneficial for the veteran since he wouldn’t need to shoulder the load with McConkey and Johnston on the roster. Together the three could become a lethal trio, and balance out Los Angeles’ passing attack to make it among the best in the league.
