The Democratic Socialists of America are having a moment.
Well, really, they have been having a pretty good decade, with the election of The Squad, local officials around the country, and increasing influence in academia, the media, and in the Democratic Party, which apparently is happy to co-endorse with them.
More and more Americans are embracing the term “socialist,” and the DSA tries to put a happy face on the term to make it less scary to the normies.
We aren’t communists! We are Democratic Socialists, and you like democracy, don’t you?
The future of the Democrat Party: socialists importing millions of illegals into the country then bankrupting welfare programs funded by legal, hardworking families. We must turn back before it’s too late. https://t.co/D9BBdnmvVP

The goal is to associate socialism with something like you USED TO see in the Nordic countries, although ironically, that version of socialism is in the rear-view mirror there. They are capitalist countries with a strong social insurance backstop, and a long way off from the model that the DSA wants you to believe they have.
Every single Nordic country ranks higher than the US on various economic freedom indexes. Do better, USA! The Heritage Foundation prefers Sweden’s economic model to what we are doing here, given how powerful the administrative state is.
The DSA is, in fact, just as communist as every other “socialist” group in America, and its tone is becoming more radical as its members sense that its moment has come. Having taken over the governance of several major cities in America, established caucuses in Congress and many state legislatures, and developed a massive propaganda machine funded by zillions of dollars from abroad and radical billionaires at home, the DSA is letting its freak flag fly almost as much as the Freedom Road Socialist Organization, which has deep ties to our public school unions.
The DSA may have the very pretty (I think so) AOC and the man with a dreamy smile, Zohran Mamdani, to front for their radicals, but they are merely the salesmen for an organization that embraces literal terrorism and looks forward to imposing some version or another of communism on America. It could be Leninist, Castroite, Chavismo, or Islamofascist communism—the factions will fight it out if they win—but they are all united in their goal of overthrowing the Western countries and installing a dictatorship of the proletariat.
What I love about this piece is that it completely shatters the myth that DSA’s revolutionary, pro-violence voices are “fringe.” The organization just elevated one of its most visible and most radical figures to national prominence. https://t.co/aCJxYB68XG

Zohran Mamdani pals around with Hasan Piker, the dog torturer who talks about ripping the bloody guts out of landlords, and campaigns with an unindicted co-conspirator of the 9/11 terrorists, and Pravda insists that he just wants to share the warmth of collectivism with us.
Yet when the DSA considers the motion to remove a Maoist from their committee that trains people to participate in ICE protests, two-thirds of the members endorse his tactics.
The call for a new security commission stemmed from Resolution 26, “Fight Fascist State Repression & ICE.” Authored by the Springs of Revolution, a caucus-like group that hopes to remake DSA as “a mass revolutionary force,” the resolution instructs Red Rabbits and DSA’s National Abolition Working Group to “prepare the organization for a national uprising against federal agents and police brutality.”
In summer 2025, the DSA passed the resolution at its convention. Months later, the NPC voted to dissolve all previous national-security commissions and establish the Red Rabbits Security Commission, named in reference to animals in Watership Down by Richard Adams. An account apparently belonging to NPC member Cliff Connolly invited all DSA members to apply to the commission.
Winston, like other DSA members, was eligible to apply for appointment to the commission. The application required candidates to detail their background and relevant experience, including in law enforcement (likely disqualifying, given the organization’s exclusion of active law enforcement officers), as well as training in areas such as bleeding control, de-escalation, firearm safety, self-defense, protest marshaling, and information security. Following a review of all applicants, Winston secured sufficient support through a “single transferable vote” election to earn a seat on the commission.
Winston was elected despite, or perhaps because of, his long history of Maoist comments. He runs a YouTube account under the alias “BlackRedGuard,” which features interviews with other socialist organizations, critiques of the Left, and commentary on current events.
People still think of socialism through the lens of people like Bernie Sanders, who seems and is harmless enough, at least when it comes to physical violence. Sanders seems happy enough to pal around with the less savory socialists, but one can imagine him tut-tutting as the Stalinists round everybody up.
I grew up surrounded by Bernie Sanders types because my paternal grandparents had many friends like him in New York City. Fine people, as long as they have precisely zero power.
The DSA today is a whole other thing, more akin to the revolutionary groups that popped up in the 1970s, such as the Weather Underground. While the party as a whole is not organizing terrorist plots, as you can see, the people who are into that sort of thing are becoming quite prominent in the organization.

Like the Communist Party during the Soviet Era, the DSA has developed strong ties with the Chinese Communists, to the discomfort of even some of the less revolutionary types who thought they were signing up to be fellow travelers, not actual shills for totalitarian governments.

The discomfort of the casual socialists notwithstanding, the core membership is eager to join up with Xi and company.
The meeting minutes, which date back to 2021, reveal members openly discussing contacts with China’s ruling party under the banner of “anti-imperialism,” and repeated trips to the East Asian nation to meet with CCP officials.
The documents also show DSA participants urging others to steer clear of certain politically sensitive Communist Party issues, such as China’s threats to invade Taiwan, its Hong Kong security crackdown, and abuses of the Uyghur Muslim minority, the outlet reported. …
One December session, part of the DSA’s “political education” offerings made wild claims, like boasting about the communist country’s “strong democracy,” claiming China has the largest economy on Earth, and insisting that only state control of private businesses can save workers from the “oligarchy.”
“Reducing inequality is literally the number one goal of the Chinese Communist Party,” said speaker Ben Norton, an American studying Marxism in Beijing, who founded the conspiracy website Geopolitical Economy Report.
Pravda works its magic, whitewashing the DSA as it does everybody who hates Republicans. An MS-13 member becomes a “Maryland father,” and a DSA member becomes the guy or gal who covers you in a warm blanket of collectivism.
Mamdani: We need to seize the means of production, have the government buy up all the property, take away the rights of landlords, open government-owned grocery stores, and end rugged individualism to embrace the warmth of collectivism.

They are communists, pure and simple, and despite what your college professor and the media tell you, communists are perfectly willing to use violence to get their way.
They are revolutionaries, not reformers. The “Long March Through the Institutions” was named after Mao’s Long March.
The Democratic Socialists of America are poised to remake the Democratic Party in their image. Their program is nothing less than an anti-American subversion campaign.
Like all good Marxists, they believe their revolution is imminent. | @tal_fortganghttps://t.co/QwJHAarxZi

When we talk about communists being everywhere in academia and government, we are treated like Joe McCarthy, making accusations between swigs of whiskey. McCarthy, of course, was right, but his choice of tactics discredited anticommunism to this day.
Well, his choice of tactics and the smear campaign against him. But you know what I mean: if you have an accusation to make, back it up.
But there really ARE a ton of Marxists in every major cultural institution, and they are often perfectly willing to tell you that they are looking forward and working toward a revolution.
There are quite a few Marxist and Socialist faculty members at American universities.

Mamdani and AOC may be the attractive face of The Revolution, but that doesn’t mean the revolution will be happy.

Should it ever come, it will be just as bloody as you think it will. You are already seeing the insurgency making progress, and the violence escalating. Teachers, doctors, lawyers, and judges have all come out in favor of killing conservatives, and “mainstream” Democrats are setting the table for the violence by escalating rhetoric against Republicans, federal law enforcement, and the president himself.
The conflation of socialism, which is inherently coercive, with a strong social insurance state has shielded the DSA and other socialist organizations from scrutiny. And when it was fringe, perhaps ignoring the DSA wasn’t a problem.
But it is no longer fringe. The DSA has a powerful voice in shaping where the Democratic Party goes because its centrist base is collapsing.
Democrats need the revolutionaries. And they are every bit as bad as you think.
