The Kansas City Chiefs finally broke the win deadlock in the 2025 regular season with a victory over the New York Giants, who fall to 0-3 on the season.

Whilst the Chiefs were far from perfect, any double-digit win is a positive in the National Football League, and there were certainly good elements to take away from the game – particularly on offense.

Yet one of the more interesting, telling moments of the spectacle actually came after the game had finished, where defensive tackle and 3 x All-Pro, Chris Jones, was interviewed post-game.

It was revealed that Jones had wanted to do a jersey swap with now-Giants quarterback and Super Bowl XLVIII champion, Russell Wilson, for almost the entirety of his career, but he had never managed to get one.

But when asked whether he would ask again on Sunday night for a jersey swap – Jones finally got his own back on the former Seahawks legend, saying that he was no longer interested in a post-game jersey exchange.

Why Did Chris Jones Reject Russell Wilson’s Jersey?

“I don’t even want it,” Jones replied to the interviewer after the game, “It’s all good. I don’t want it.”

The 180 degree change from consistently trying to get the jersey of one of the most unique quarterbacks to ever grace the NFL, to claiming that he is not interested in a jersey swap any longer, is certainly not trivial.

Especially when you consider that Jones has been in the league since 2016, so this is his 10th season in pro football.

So Jones’ reaction – whilst not overtly publicized – likely comes down to a mix of Wilson not playing well: the former All-Pro went 18/32 for 160, no touchdowns and 2 interceptions; and wanting to get his own back on Wilson by borderline humiliating him on national television after his brutal display.

Where Does The Chiefs’ Defense Go From Here?

A two-sack, two-interception game is certainly not a bad start, but overcoming the Giants is hardly akin to taking down the Fort Knox of NFL offenses.

Wilson showed his age and deterioration, with the 36 year receiving multiple boos at the end of the game as media and fans’ calls to insert first round rookie, Jaxson Dart, into the action full-time grows ever louder.

But this was certainly a good ‘get back on track game’, and opponents will not forget in a hurry the immense prowess of legendary defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, in outfoxing some of the best offensive minds of the current era.

Jones got his first sack of the season on Sunday night – one that Chiefs fans will hope is the first of many as the Chiefs’ legend enters his age-31 season.

Much of the media coverage in the coming days will focus on Patrick Mahomes‘ strong showing as the team got back to winning ways, as the 3 x Super Bowl MVP threw for 224 yards and a touchdown, finally finding some much-needed chemistry with receivers Tyquan Thornton and Juju Smith-Schuster.

But the defense was what kept KC at arm’s length throughout almost the entire evening – even when the game was tied at 6-6. And if the Chiefs are to make a serious playoff push once more this postseason, much of it will no doubt have to come from the performances of that side of the ball.
