Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice.
Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver Rashee Rice is once again a hot topic in the media cycle, and for the second time in the last six months, it’s about an off-field issue. Rice’s ex-girlfriend and the mother of his two children Dacoda Nichole Jones accused the Chiefs pass catcher of domestic abuse in early January, posting videos of bruises and wounds on her Instagram page.
She didn’t explicitly name Rice in the video, but said “the person who abused her is the father of her children.”
Rice has remained silent since the allegations came to light. Early on Wednesday morning, TMZ Sports posted a video of a reporter following Rice at an airport, while asking questions about the situation. Rice declined to respond to the reporter.
The reporter asked three questions in the 44 second clip, to which Rice did not respond.
“There’s a lot of headlines right now, what’s your side? I know it’s got to be a hard situation… What’s you side of the story?”
“No comment? No comment, okay.”
“Was there ever a hand put on anybody?”
The video ends as Rice gets into a car and drives away.
Chiefs Aware of Situation, Remaining Silent
In the days following the allegations posted on Instagram by Jones, the Kansas City Chiefs released a statement:
“The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League. We have no further comment at this time.”
Two days after posting about the abuse, Jones deleted it from her page. As of Jan. 28, no formal police reports have been filed against Rice.
This is Rice’s second off-field scandal in the last year, as he was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years probation back in July of 2025 for his role in a multicar crash during the 2024 offseason. He pleaded guilty to two third-degree felonies: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury.
The crash left multiple people injured, while Rice and his friends fled the scene on foot. Rice served a six game suspension at the beginning of the 2025 season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
Rice Hasn’t Played Full NFL Season Since Rookie Year
In the last two seasons in the NFL, Rice has missed 22 of 34 possible games because of that six game suspension and two injuries.
After missing the first six games of the 2025 season while serving his suspension, he returned for the next eight, catching 53 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns. His season was cut short though, as he suffered a concussion that caused him to miss the final three games.
In 2024, Rice tore his LCL in his right knee in week four, causing him to get season-ending surgery.
His rookie season in 2023 was full of promise, as he made 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. Unfortunately, it’s been a struggle for him to stay on the field the last two years because of his legal and injury issues.
Because no formal police report has been filed and the NFL has remained quiet on this most recent incident, there is no reason to believe he’ll miss time to start the 2026 season as of January.
