Singer-turned-elite swimmer Cody Simpson has broken his silence about his new acting role.

The 28-year-old is set to return to screens in Stan’s new series, He Had It Coming, which drops later this month.

This will mark his first acting gig since he appeared in the little-seen US film Smiley Face Killers in 2020 and his first role in an Aussie show.

In the new university campus-set sitcom, Cody plays the character of Scott, a star rugby player who goes head-to-head with a group of hard-line feminists.

‘He’s a polarising figure and that’s what he had to be, that’s what they [the creators] wanted him to be,’ Cody told TV Week.

Cody, who made his acting debut in 2014 in the US sitcom Instant Mom continued, ‘He kind of sets the tone for the way a lot of the female characters in the show think about men and their relationship to men and to the male characters in the series.’

But Cody says that he hopes fans will see his character, who he says is ‘misogynistic and unlikable’, as a ‘contrast’ to his own personality.

Elsewhere in the chat, Cody gushed over his girlfriend, Emma McKeon and shared that the champion swimmer has yet to see his new show.

‘We’re going to be watching it together,’ he said.

The plot of He Had It Coming follows two young women, Barbara (Natasha Liu) and Elise (Lydia West), who fall foul of the law after they deface a statue on campus.

Unfortunately for the hard-line feminists, the body of a man, with ‘Kill All Men’ carved into his chest, is found next to the statue, and ‘Kill All Men ‘ is the name of the women’s ‘art’ project.

Cody has also appeared in the US series Cougar Town in 2015.

It comes after Cody Simpson recently gave fans a rare glimpse into his relationship with Emma McKeon.

The Australian singer-turned-swimmer, who recently revealed that he was also returning to music, opened up about his three-year relationship with the Olympian in an interview with 9Honey.

In a recent chat with TV Week, Cody gushed over his girlfriend, Emma McKeon and shared that the champion swimmer has yet to see his new show.

‘She’s a rock in my life,’ he said of his girlfriend.

‘Anyone who has that in life is lucky.’

He went on: ‘We bonded through something so specific and special in swimming, but now, living and navigating life after it and doing all different kinds of things, it’s been a really fun journey.’

Cody and Emma first met in the Australian swimming circuit.

Their relationship reportedly began blossoming during training camps and competitions as part of the national team.

The pair went public in July 2022, with Cody praising Emma’s influence on his transition to professional swimming.

Both have supported each other at major events, including the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where Emma achieved record-breaking success.
