You have to hand it to celebrities. Unlike most people, they are empowered to opt out of reality because money, power, and prestige give them the privilege to do so.
It must be nice.
On the other hand, because they can opt out of reality and because many people admire them for reasons I find difficult to understand, they have the power to make things worse for other people by using some of that money and prestige to advocate (and pay for) causes that only make sense if you can opt out of reality.
Conan O’Brien Emotionally Advocates for LA’s Immigrant Community With Diego Luna: ‘They’re Doing All the Work’ | Videohttps://t.co/Mt1OhNew9f

Conan O’Brien is a good case in point. He has a habit of embracing causes about which he understands nothing.
This time around, it is his anger at Trump for his immigration policies, which I admit really are harming two classes of people. The first, illegal immigrants themselves, and second, those who enjoy having cheap labor to exploit and who are deeply angry that their servants are being taken from them.
If you free the slaves, who will pick the cotton?
I have some sympathy for most illegal aliens (not the latest freeloaders Biden imported). They came here for a better life, and many are decent, hardworking people. It’s just that in many cases, what is good for them is not so good for Americans, and the American government exists to serve Americans. I don’t support a zero immigrant policy, but a controlled flow of migrants who can learn English quickly, integrate thoroughly, and who bring skills that enhance our society as a whole. I don’t know the exact number per year, and the number of unskilled immigrants should be low, but the total is non-zero.
I have zero sympathy for the elite who want to create a class of servants to “wipe our asses” and do our yardwork for cheap. That is selfishness masquerading as generosity. It is the Martha’s Vineyard elites who give immigrants hugs smugly and send them off with the National Guard.
“Come back when you want to prune my flowers for cheap. Now go with the nice National Guardsman.”

Conan O’Brien’s virtue signaling reached its peak when he promoted the wonders of Haiti, trying to prove it is not a “sh**hole country.”
#Haiti is truly a beautiful country. #ConanHaiti pic.twitter.com/CfxDFvNz2i

Newsflash: Haiti is a sh**thole country.” Yet celebrities, who need not acknowledge reality, don’t.
How is it possible that Haiti remains the poorest, most violent, failed nation-state in the Western Hemisphere when Important Celebrities like Bill Maher, Susan Sarandon, and Conan O’Brien tell us otherwise (with @USAID-funded t-shirts)? pic.twitter.com/soatSEbOCK

Had an amazing dinner at Brasserie Quartier Latin and danced so hard to the @BoukmanEKS featuring @mikaben & @paulbeaubrun that my pants fell down. I love this country. #ConanHaiti pic.twitter.com/qsDqE8rh6j

Haiti is beyond being a basket case. It is in the running to be the worst place on Earth, but that doesn’t matter, just as it doesn’t matter to Conan that he is harming Americans and exploiting illegal immigrants by virtue signaling about Trump’s deportations.

Just as during his trip to Haiti, he stayed at a resort that armed soldiers protect against the violence and chaos that surrounds him, he glosses over the fact that importing millions of illegal immigrants brings crime, chaos, and lower living standards to America.
It’s no skin off his nose. He has a cheap gardener.

The most ironic thing about Conan’s trip to Haiti is that he used it to help raise funds to bring aid to impoverished Haitians–who are impoverished because Haiti is not already great.
No doubt he saw no contradiction, because he need not live in the real world.
Conan is an idiot. The ocean is beautiful. The sky is beautiful. Haiti is not beautiful. It’s basically Mordor.
