A couple has built a £6,000 DIY plunge pool in their back garden, so they no longer have to use their ‘ugly’ blue inflatable one to cool down on hot summer days.

Eva Stuart, 26, a government secretary and interior influencer, and Jeroen, 29, an architect who has his own firm, were able to save just under £10,000 by taking on this DIY challenge themselves, instead of paying professionals.

The couple, from the East of the Netherlands, made a video of the whole process, which has gone viral on TikTok, garnering more than 1 million views.

Eva explained: ‘We had the idea in like five minutes, you can say we are a bit impulsive. But with the hot summers here, and setting up a very ugly blue swimming pool every year, we decided that we could do that better.

‘We thought for a very long time about how the garden must look like and the plunge pool really became a centrepiece in our garden, creating more intimate spaces besides it.

‘Well, I didn’t expect that the video blew up in the way that it did.

‘Part 1 had 1.7m views due to all Indonesian people who made a little fun of the way we dressed during the renovations haha!

‘The second part is flying around the globe and it is crazy to me that it got over 5 million views already.

‘Most of the comments are amazing and very kind.’

Turning their home into their dream space has been an ongoing project since 2018, with this couple destined to achieve everything they desire for this home.

Eva said: ‘We’ve been renovating our home since 2018 when we bought it. Since then we did all of the renovations ourselves,

‘Now this year we started renovating our ground floor and did some finishing touches in the garden just like the plunge pool you saw on TikTok.

‘The plunge pool itself cost us around €5500. This price is without the flagstones around it (I’m guessing they’re about €1000).’

‘I think when you hire people to do this for you, you’ll come up around €15000.’

Explaining the building process, she said: ‘We firstly had to make a foundation and then build it with concrete blocks.

‘Next to the pool we wanted to place our old olive tree and in that same area there is the installation of the lights in the pool and also the water-skimmer.

‘I wanted to create a whole video from the beginning till the end about how we made it. Hopefully that worked.

‘And I wanted to show that besides the help from my father-in-law, we did everything ourselves. Hopefully to inspire others that you can do this too.’
