Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones
The Dallas Cowboys and team owner Jerry Jones have had a solid NFL offseason thus far. However, they have not made the franchise-changing moves that fans were hoping to see.
While a blockbuster move hasn’t been made, it would be hard to argue against the idea that the Cowboys have improved with their offseason moves.
Dallas has made a few quality additions, especially on the defensive side of the football. Jones pulled off a trade with the Green Bay Packers to acquire pass rusher Rashan Gary in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick. He also signed safety Jalen Thompson to a three-year deal worth a maximum of $33 million.
Also, the Cowboys have signed cornerback Cobie Durant, defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia, safety P.J. Locke, and quarterback Sam Howell, while making a few other moves as well.
With that being said, there are still area Dallas should look to improve. One position of need comes at cornerback and the Cowboys have been connected to a playmaker at the position.
Dallas Cowboys Connected to Intriguing Cornerback Option
CBS Sports analyst Josh Edwards released a new mock draft recently. In that mock draft, he had Dallas using the No. 12 overall pick on Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy.
“Jermod McCoy has the potential to be one of the best players to emerge from this draft class and certainly the top cornerback, but he was injured all season,” Edwards wrote. “Dallas signed safety Jalen Thompson and now has McCoy to pair with DaRon Bland. If Shavon Revel Jr. becomes the player the Cowboys had hoped, then maybe Bland moves back into the slot, where he began his career.”
McCoy missing the entire 2025 season doesn’t seem to have hurt his draft stock much. He has been widely expected to be an early mid-first-round pick.
Even though the Cowboys haven’t addressed the cornerback position with a proven player, the addition of McCoy would help improve the position dramatically.
What Would Jermod McCoy Bring to the Cowboys’ Defense?
To start his college football career, McCoy played for the Oregon State Beavers. He then played the 2024 season with the Tennessee Volunteers.
In 2024, McCoy racked up 44 total tackles to go along with four interceptions and seven defended passes. He had 31 tackles, two interceptions, and seven defended passes in 2023.
NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein has revealed his comparison for McCoy. He thinks that the Tennessee standout compares favorable to current Cleveland Browns cornerback Tyson Campbell.
Expect to continue hearing a lot of speculation about what Dallas and Jones could do in the 2026 NFL Draft. McCoy is a name worth keeping a very close eye on over the next month.
