The Dallas Cowboys are entering a pivotal offseason for the future of the franchise. Jerry Jones means business, especially after missing out on the playoffs once again during the 2025 NFL season.
Last offseason, the Cowboys made a franchise-altering decision. They opted to trade superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. Trading a generational talent like Parsons is never easy to replace.
That being said, Dallas has some cap flexibility this offseason and extra draft capital. It would not be surprising to see Jones get aggressive.
Defensively, the Cowboys had a lot of issues during the 2025 campaign. That seems likely to be at the top of their priority list this offseason. Keeping that in mind, Dallas has been linked to a free agent pass rusher who could help them replace Parsons.
Dallas Cowboys Linked to Potential $19.3 Million Free Agency Move
Chris Spiering of ClutchPoints has named the Cowboys as one of the top potential landing spots for free agent pass rusher Odafe Oweh.
“The 2025 Cowboys defense was flat-out terrible. Nobody would deny that, and they need many pieces to improve,” Spiering wrote. “Trevon Diggs and Micah Parsons are gone, so they need veteran talent to get back to the roots of this franchise.”
How much would it cost for Dallas to sign Oweh this offseason? He’s not going to come cheap, but he also won’t break the bank.
According to Spotrac, the projected market value for Oweh is a deal worth around $19.3 million per season. They have suggested a potential contract worth $$57.9 million over three years. That price range would make sense for the Cowboys.
What Would Odafe Oweh Bring to the Cowboys?
During the 2025 NFL season split between the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers, Oweh played in 17 total regular season games. He racked up 38 total tackles to go along with 7.5 sacks.
Granted, those numbers don’t scream “star caliber player,” but he’s a quality pass rusher.
At the price point that he’s expected to get, Dallas could land much worse. Oweh has been a consistent presence off of the edge throughout his entire career. He has recorded 30.5 career sacks in 79 games, with 10 of those coming in 2024.
Oweh is now 27 years old and will turn 28 on December 15. He still has plenty of good football left in the tank and could be a nice piece for the Cowboys over the next three years.
There is no guarantee that Dallas and Jones will actually have interest in signing Oweh. This is just an idea at this point in time, but it’s an idea that makes sense and could help the Cowboys towards replacing the production missing from the Parsons trade.
