It has been almost 10 months since Charlie Kirk was murdered. In that time a whole host of podcasters have turned his death into an absurd murder mystery for their own enrichment, most notably Candace Owens.
Meanwhile, Tyler Robinson’s defense has used every trick in the book to drag out his trial as long as possible. However, today we’re finally going to see some progress as a preliminary hearing expected too last all week kicks off today. The defense got this pushed back from it’s original scheduled date last month and tried to have it delayed again but they were unsuccessful.
They have also done everything they can to keep this hearing hidden from the cameras but they failed there too. Why did they want this hearing to happen behind closed doors? Because at this hearing the prosecution will present some of its case against Tyler Robinson and they are worried the facts will make it difficult for their client to get a fair trial.
Also, and this is just my speculation, I think the defense has been hoping the nonsense being spewed by Candace Owens and others would confuse enough people that they’ll have a chance to get one of these special snowflakes onto the jury. I don’t blame them for wanting to win. That’s their job. But I also don’t want to see the guy who did it escape justice so Candace Owens can make a lot of money entertaining people with conspiracy theories. It’s time to put some of this to rest.
Monday is the start of a weeklong preliminary hearing for Robinson, who faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, in connection with Kirk’s Sept. 10 death. Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty if Robinson is convicted.
Charlie Kirk’s parents and his widow, Erika Kirk, are expected to be in the Provo courtroom…
Robinson’s defense attorney had tried to delay this week’s hearing, asking the Utah Supreme Court to consider their team’s appeals on previous decisions made by 4th District Judge Tony Graf. He has allowed cameras in the courtroom and rejected the defense’s request to require Lance Twiggs — Robinson’s roommate and romantic partner at the time of Kirk’s death — to testify in person and be cross-examined.
On Thursday afternoon, the Utah Supreme Court denied the petitions, clearing the hearing to move forward.
Prosecutors will present evidence this week that they say is sufficient to send their case against Robinson to trial. They plan to call a handful of police officers to testify as they lay out their case, according to court filings, and will show video of Kirk’s shooting, photos of the rifle police believe is tied to Robinson, a medical examiner report, and messages that Robinson allegedly sent in a Discord chat and to Twiggs.
First on the stand today was Officer Chris Bagley. Bagley worked as a campus police officer at UVU and was present when the shooting took place. He testified to hearing the shot and rushing toward the scene only to be met by a crowd of people running away. He heard over the radio that a suspect was in custody and found a holster for a pistol on the grass but he and another officer agreed that the sound of the shot indicated it came from a rifle, not a pistol.
Bagley decided to inspect the roof of a nearby building, thinking it was a likely location for someone with a rifle to have taken a shot. Once on the roof he discovered a red and black screwdriver. Photos of the screwdriver were added as evidence. And that’s where the court took a short break.
I should mention that the defense has been objecting to every image so far, claiming that the date and identity of the photographer is unknown. So far the judge has overruled all of those challenges on the grounds that Bagley was there and knows whether or not the images match what he saw that day.
There’s more to come but I’ll have to add updates below. There are really two ways this could go this week. First, my hope is that the prosecutors will have their act together and present a credible case very simply and directly. The other way this could go is that someone goes off script and provides fodder for another month of conspiracy theorizing about the real killers.
Honestly, I think Candace Owens and the rest of the morons promoting this garbage are long past the point of no return. They can’t back down now no matter what happens. You can bet your life that they’ll pronounce this week a win for their theories no matter what is said. My hope is not that the prosecution convinces them. My hope is that it convinces enough normies that Candace Owens and her crew are more isolated and have less support going forward.
I’ll update below if there is anything significant in the hearing. So far it has actually been relatively boring which is good. They are carefully laying out the facts, leaving as little room as possible for the defense to blow up the case.
Here’s the Court TV live coverage of the hearing. You can scroll back if you want to see all of it.
Update: Here’s how Owens is responding to the hearing today.
Today the Tyler Robinson show trial begins.
Evidence like text message confessions will be allowed in the court room, despite the fact that Tyler’s defense has not been allowed to vet those messages to determine if they were doctored or who actually sent them. Part of her schtick is to pretend she’s the only person who really wants justice in this case.
One more fight, Charlie. ✝️
I don’t fear these demons.
We will win. pic.twitter.com/h26QAoSa4J— Candace Owens (@RealCandaceO) July 6, 2026
Candace, you and Charlie were not friends. He managed you. He kept things light and polite so you wouldn’t turn on the org.
Show me any proof of genuine friendship from the last 12 months of his life? From the last 18 months? From the last 24 months? Not some 2018 text.… https://t.co/akoyyrv77w
