Dems Worrying About Freaky Senate Candidate *Not* Named Platner, Too – HotAir

Seriously? What could embarrass the “party of women” and muh democracy more than backing a Nazi-tatted misogynist with a history of lies and violence?

Funny you should ask.

As it happens, Democrats have an opportunity to hold onto a Senate seat in Michigan, and probably could – if they could manage to nominate a candidate that has some appeal to the electorate that voted for Donald Trump. Instead, Democrats are about to nominate another extreme candidate that could allow Republicans to expand their majority in the upper chamber. And Abdul el-Sayed might join Graham Platner as the national brand of a party that wants to run for the fringes, the Washington Post frets:

Abdul El-Sayed has outflanked Rep. Haley Stevens and state Sen. Mallory McMorrow from the left, boosted by a populist agenda and endorsements from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) and liberal lawmakers. The concerns among Democrats can be distilled pretty easily: Michigan backed Donald Trump last cycle and only narrowly elected Sen. Elissa Slotkin over former representative Mike Rogers, who will again be the Republican nominee this November. So, their thinking goes, nominating someone who has staked out a far-left position on Israel’s war in Gaza, campaigned with controversial figures that Republicans will demonize in November and is strident in his liberalism could doom their chances in this must-win seat.

It’s a familiar dynamic — establishment Democrats often worry that candidates too far left on the party’s spectrum could hurt the party in November.

“There is real concern that Abdul would not be able to beat Rogers and then potentially lose us a majority possibility in the Senate,” said Lon Johnson, a former chair of the Michigan Democratic Party and Stevens supporter.

Gee … ya think? Bernie Sanders is one of the geniuses pushing a Nazi-tatted misogynist creep for the Senate, as well as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren, the Squad, and the rest of the national socialist front. Perhaps state Democrat parties ought to tell the extremists of the party to butt out, emphasis on the butt.

Maybe they should ask the unions to butt out as well. The UAW announced its endorsement for el-Sayed today, echoing the class-warfare rhetoric that has gripped the party and pushed extreme candidates in swing states:

Michigan’s most iconic and storied labor union, the United Auto Workers, has thrown its endorsement to former Wayne County and Detroit health director Abdul El-Sayed in the race for the Democratic nomination to the state’s open U.S. Senate seat.

By doing so, the UAW bolsters the surging campaign of El-Sayed, the most progressive-leaning candidate in a tight three-person race to win the Party’s nomination Aug. 4 and take on the presumptive Republican nominee, former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, of White Lake. …

Although the Free Press rarely writes individual stories about political endorsements, it does so when they suggest a significant impact on or a change in a key political race. In this case, the UAW is throwing its political weight not behind the more centrist Democratic candidates — U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens of Birmingham and state Sen. Mallory McMorrow of Royal Oak — but El-Sayed, who has never been elected to political office and has been endorsed by progressive stalwarts including U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, of Vermont, and U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Detroit.

El-Sayed, of Ann Arbor, is the son of Egyptian immigrants and has a medical degree, as referenced in the UAW’s endorsement message, though he has never been a practicing physician.

Bear in mind that this is an endorsement from UAW’s leadership, not its rank and file. It’s a huge snub to Stevens, who helped create and back the bailouts of the automakers after the 2008 financial crisis, serving on Barack Obama’s task force that actively intervened to keep doors open at GM and Chrysler. Union leadership sold out to the Democrat Party establishment decades ago and are now part of the ideological capture by the Democratic Socialists of America, with which Sanders, AOC, Tlaib, and others align. The workers on those lines may have very different ideas about whether Stevens has done more for them than el-Sayed.

The real reason for the passion behind el-Sayed and Platner is aligning against Israel. The DSA and its endorsees all have the same thing in common – a commitment to a “river to the sea” policy for Palestinians and the end of Israel. El-Sayed refuses to commit to the legitimacy of the Jewish state, a very popular stand in Dearbornistan but hardly so in the rest of Michigan or the country. The progressive Left has gone all-in on anti-Semitism, which is the real connecting thread between the Nazi-tatted socialist in Maine and the phony-physician socialist in Michigan.

That message comes across loudly and clearly to the rest of the country. The New York Post editorial board warned yesterday that Democrats run the risk of it becoming the party’s most prominent brand:

Primary voters in Jersey’s 12th district on Tuesday tapped radical Dr. Adam Hamawy; he’s a shoe-in in November.

Even though he’s a longtime associate of terrorist mastermind Omar Abdel-Rahman, the “Blind Sheik” — and also volunteered with an al Qaeda-linked group in Bosnia and at a Hamas-friendly hospital in Gaza.

Helping him over the top were endorsements from Squad Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), plus lefty Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

Hey, it’s Platner’s crew!

This follows the win last month by radical Chris Rabb (who campaigned with antisemitic podcaster Hasan Piker) for a safe-Dem Philadelphia seat in the House, as well as Analilia Meija in another Jersey primary, again as the most rabidly anti-Israel choices. …

In Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed leads in Democrats’ Senate primary after appearing with Piker and publicly struggling not to condemn the killing of Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Meanwhile, long-Nazi-tatted Graham Platner is trying to restore his mojo in Maine’s Senate race by pretending incumbent Sen. Susan Collins is owned by Israel.

Democrats likely will ignore anything the New York Post has to say. Perhaps they’ll listen more closely to the Washington Post. My guess is that Democrats won’t stop embracing the hard-Left progressive hate agenda until it costs them at the ballot box. Let’s hope that happens in Michigan and Maine, not to mention Georgia, Texas, Iowa, and everywhere else voters can stand up and fight the anti-Semitic Democrat Party in this cycle.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
