ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Miami Dolphins veteran edge rusher Bradley Chubb could become available on the NFL trade market this fall.
The NFL trade deadline never used to be something football fans had to circle on the calendar. But that’s changed in a big way in recent years, and this past week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter listed several big-named players who could be on the move ahead of the 2025 deadline. Included on that list was Miami Dolphins edge rusher Bradley Chubb.
“The list of trade candidates that executives and coaches believe could be available in the next few weeks features multiple high-profile players, including Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Trey Hendrickson, Mark Andrews, Bradley Chubb, Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, Breece Hall, Cameron Jordan and Riq Woolen,” wrote Schefter. “These players’ respective teams haven’t necessarily made them available via trade, but sources believe they eventually could be.”
Chubb has been one of the lone bright spots for the Dolphins this season, particularly on defense. That could make him tough to part with before the trade deadline.
But it also makes him one of Miami’s best trade assets.
Chubb has posted four sacks with 14 combined tackles, including four tackles for loss and four quarterback hits this season. He also has one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in five games.
Chubb was one of three Dolphins on Schefter’s extended list of players to potentially be available before the trade deadline. The other two Miami players Schefter mentioned were edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and running back Jaylen Wright.
Could Miami Dolphins Trade Bradley Chubb?
It’s no secret that if the Dolphins don’t turn things around quickly, they could be facing a full rebuild. Chubb looks fully back to form since missing all of last season with a torn ACL.
However, Chubb will turn 30 years old next summer. The edge rusher probably isn’t a player that the Dolphins will have in their long-term plans if the franchise moves to rebuilding this offseason.
But trading Chubb could help jumpstart that rebuild. The edge rusher leads the team in sacks, which could give him a sizable market before the trade deadline.
The Dolphins could also save money against the salary cap over the next two years with a Chubb trade.
According to Over the Cap, moving Chubb in a trade would give Miami about a $10.9 million 2026 dead cap hit. The Dolphins would also carry an $8.2 million dead cap hit in 2027.
But the team would also save more than $20 million each season with a Chubb trade.
When is the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline?
The NFL trade deadline this season is Tuesday, November 4. Any trade has to be concluded before 4 pm ET.
Before that deadline, the Dolphins will play four more games. That gives them plenty of time to turn things around from their 1-4 start.
The schedule, though, will be challenging. After facing the Los Angeles Chargers at home Sunday, the Dolphins will visit the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons in back-to-back games.
Then just before the trade deadline, the Dolphins will host the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football.
Three of those four teams own .500 records or worse. So, in a way, the schedule is favorable. But the Browns have a tough defense, and pundits expected the Falcons and Ravens to be better than what they showed in September.
Again, there’s time for Miami to be more competitive. If they are, there’s no reason the Dolphins have to trade players already under contract for 2026.
But if they fall further back in the standings, it’s probably a discussion the team is at least going to have.
