‘The plot was basically me writing what I wished would happen in my life because I was single and had very little action, I wasn’t very good with girls.’
And sweetly saying that the main character ‘getting the girl in the end’ in his movie was a parallel to his own life as he met his own wife.
Continuing: ‘I sat and wrote how I wished my life would go and I had this main character and he was called Marty instead of Michael – he basically gets the girl in the end and it’s a sweet story.
‘In parallel to this my wife was doing a similar thing and was getting into acting. I was sort of pretending to be a screenwriter and she was pretending to be an actress. My sister met her through a friend and she said “I’ve met the girl from your movie.”
‘We had this hilarious meeting where I was pretending to be a really cool writer and she was pretending to be an actress and we’ve been married for 20 years,’ concluded Michael.
The comedian previously revealed that he knew after just one date that his wife was ‘the one’ during an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.
‘We might have kissed on our first date. That was it for me. I announced to everybody that I’m in love and I’m going to marry this girl,’ he sweetly recalled.
The pair tend to keep family life outside of the limelight, despite Michael often comically touching on the relationship during his stand-up shows.

The $144,000 motor boasted some very lavish features including climate control, leather upholstery and parking assistance with 360-degree camera.
It also boasts full LED headlamps, alloy wheels of at least 20 inches and heated front and rear seats.
Michael has long boasted a luxury collection of cars and has also owned expensive vehicles including a Ferrari and a Jaguar over the years.
The stand-up comic has also been spotted driving a £150,000 Ferrari California, which has a top speed of 193mph and can do 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds.
Back in 2010, Michael also purchased a £80,000 Jaguar XK convertible to ferry himself around the country.
