Elijah Moore #8 of the New York Jets carries the ball down the field in the fourth quarter of the game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium.
The Philadelphia Eagles are signing former New York Jets draft pick Elijah Moore to a one-year deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The former Jets second-round pick is on his fourth team in five years.
Moore spent time with both the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos this past season, but was never able to carve out a full-time role for himself with either team.
Now, he takes his talents to Philadelphia. There’s plenty of talent ahead of him in Devonta Smith and A.J. Brown, but Moore could be the complementary piece the Eagles are looking for when they lost Jahan Dotson in free agency.
Elijah Moore’s Sour Jets Relationship
Moore was selected 34th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, in the same class as No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson, and No. 14 overall pick Alijah Vera-Tucker.
Outside of Vera-Tucker, who himself had an extensive injury history throughout his time in New York, that draft class never really panned out for New York.
Moore’s rookie season would be his best as a Jet, hauling in 43 receptions for 538 yards and five touchdowns. He also had five rushing attempts for 54 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Problems began in 2022, when, amid a 4-2 start, Moore began publicly complaining about his usage and lack of targets. He requested a trade and was not granted one.
The outburst led to an even further reduced role in New York’s offense, and in the 2023 offseason, the Jets traded Moore and a third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a second-round pick.
Cleveland was certainly a better situation for Moore; he had arguably two of the best years of his career there, totaling 120 receptions for 1,178 yards and three touchdowns.
But the Browns opted not to extend the former Ole Miss Rebel and allowed him to test free agency in 2025.
He ended up signing with the Buffalo Bills, and even scored a touchdown against the Jets in Week 2 of the 2025 season. But that was about the peak of Moore’s Bills tenure.
He was released midseason, looking for a larger role, and joined the Broncos‘ practice squad. Moore ended up catching one pass for four yards in the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.
Elijah Moore’s Fit With the Eagles
Throughout his New York Jets tenure, Moore was always looking for a bigger role in the offense.
It’s hard to see him finding that with the Philadelphia Eagles, considering they already have plenty of mouths to feed on that team in Brown and Smith.
Of course, there is the very real possibility that the Eagles’ star wideout, Brown, gets traded this offseason. There’s been plenty of smoke around that deteriorating relationship, and a divorce feels imminent.
If Philadelphia does end up trading Brown, Moore will find himself in a wide receiver room with Smith and the recently signed Hollywood Brown.
Maybe then he’ll finally get the featured role he’s been looking for throughout his short NFL career, and he can finally show the rest of the league that explosive talent he displayed early on with the Jets.
