With The Bear Season 3 just around the corner, Ebon Moss-Bachrach has generated excitement by revealing more about his character, Richie, and what lies ahead. Known for his roles in The Punisher, NOS4A2, and The Dropout, Moss-Bachrach portrays Richard ‘Cousin Richie’ Jerimovich.

Richie Finds a New Purpose
Richie is introduced as the close friend of Carmy’s late brother Michael, managing The Original Beef of Chicagoland which Carmy inherits. Over two seasons, Richie has been known as Carmy’s ‘cousin’, symbolizing their close bond.
Moss-Bachrach shared on The Daily Show that Season 3 will depict Richie discovering a sense of purpose: I think for Richie, he’s become aware that there’s a path for him to find purpose and live a maybe fuller life, a richer life, in a way. But just because he’s aware of that path doesn’t mean that he’s cruising up to the top.
Complexity of Character
Moss-Bachrach spoke about the fun yet challenging nature of Richie’s character: When he’s yelled for 46 years, you know, I think it’s hard to maybe [retire] the outdoor voice.
He also noted how forming Richie’s character was different compared to his previous roles: A lot of the time I find myself having to create a character a lot, you know, like the script is kind of open-ended…this one, he just felt really fully formed. And I just had a strong connection.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach on Fame
Despite the massive success of The Bear, Moss-Bachrach has shown reluctance towards fame. He has asked fans to refrain from calling out to him in public. This stands in contrast to someone like Glen Powell, who appears more at ease with public recognition.

Understanding Loyalty and Resilience
Moss-Bachrach’s take on Richie adds depth to his portrayal: I think Richie is a very loyal friend who is a very resilient soul. Carmy seems more fragile and neurotic.
This insight into the characters’ dynamics highlights how distinctive their personalities are within the series.
