Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley defends his tarnished reputation on social media following his arrest.
Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley, who played a key role during the team’s 2024 playoff push, addressed the public for the first time after being arrested in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge.
After posting a $40,000 bond, Beverley took to X (formerly Twitter) to push back on viral reports surrounding the incident.
“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾,” Beverley wrote, signaling that early descriptions of the events were inaccurate.
TMZ Sports reported that Beverley is accused of assaulting a family or household member, with allegations involving impeding breath or circulation, a serious charge under Texas law.
Beverley Claims He Was Protecting His Minor Sister
Beverley’s attorney issued a detailed response disputing the narrative and defending the former Bucks guard’s actions.
“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor,” the statement read.
Beverley found his underage sister alone with an 18-year-old male in their home late at night, according to the statement.
“He was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister,” the attorney continued. “However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”
Beverley plans to challenge the allegations fully once the case reaches court.
Beverley’s Intensity — and His Controversial Bucks Stint
Beverley last played in the NBA with the Bucks during the 2023–24 season, appearing in 26 games after arriving at the deadline and quickly carving out a role as a defensive spark off the bench.
He averaged 6.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 36.1% from three-point range. His fiery attitude and veteran leadership briefly energized a Bucks team dealing with injuries to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard.
However, Bucks fans also recall that Beverley’s last NBA game — May 2, 2024, Game 6 vs. the Indiana Pacers — ended in controversy. With Milwaukee’s season slipping away, Beverley became involved in a heated incident with Pacers fans, throwing a basketball twice into the crowd and striking one spectator.
The NBA suspended him for four games, which he has not yet served, and he now faces a civil lawsuit from the fans involved.
Beverley’s Overseas Stint Also Ended Abruptly
After leaving the Bucks, Beverley signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Basketball Premier League. That stint ended in February when the team suspended him and later parted ways.
The felony arrest adds another layer of uncertainty to Beverley’s basketball future. The 37-year-old guard has not signed with an NBA team this season, and it remains unclear how the pending case, civil lawsuit, and unserved suspension will impact any potential comeback.
Beverley maintained that the public story is incomplete and that the facts will emerge in court.
For now, Beverley, who was known for his fire, defensive grit, and unforgettable final moment in a Milwaukee uniform, will have to play his best defense to dodge the charges against him.
