Nothing like closing the barn door after the colt has bolted, eh?
Give the Anti-Defamation League this much credit … at least they learned something from putting targets on the backs of people. The Southern Poverty Law Center still hasn’t figured that much out. And even then, as Mediaite points out, the ADL isn’t completely repentant after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, but at least moving in the right direction:
The Anti-Defamation League deleted its “Glossary of Extremism” database on Tuesday after receiving backlash for including the late Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA.
In a statement, the ADL announced that it had retired the “extremism” database after its decision to list Turning Point USA – even after founder Kirk’s recent assassination – sparked uproar on social media, including from billionaire Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr.
“With over 1,000 entries written over many years, the ADL Glossary of Extremism has served as a source of high-level information on a wide range of topics for years. At the same time, an increasing number of entries in the Glossary were outdated,” the organization said. “We also saw a number of entries intentionally misrepresented and misused. Moreover, our experts have continued to develop more comprehensive resources and innovative ways to provide information about antisemitism, extremism and hate.”
Yeah, great, whatever. The ADL never answers the real question: What in the world was TPUSA doing on a list about extremist anti-Semitism in the first place? Charlie welcomed Jews, supported Israel, and tried to open dialogues with people rather than build lists and databases of people to shun. Charlie also evangelized about Christianity, but that’s not incompatible with friendships with Jewish people and causes, and Charlie in particular felt strongly that it didn’t. There’s a reason that Benjamin Netanyahu and a number of other Israeli political and cultural leaders publicly mourned Charlie’s death.
Rather than answer the question honestly, the ADL just wants to delete the entire project and hope that everyone forgets about it. However, they’re not giving up the campaign against TPUSA either. The ADL offers this intellectually obtuse explanation for flagging the group:
The ADL continues to host another Turning Point USA page, listed under the category, “Extremism, Hate or Terrorism,” which acknowledges Kirk’s murder and his support for Israel, while at the same time accusing his organization of having “ties to a range of right-wing extremists” with “a history of bigoted statements about the Black community, the LGBTQ community and specifically transgender people, and other minority groups.”
Let’s ask this: how many acts of violence did TPUSA create or condone? And how many acts of violence has the group suffered while trying to engage people in peaceful demonstrations and discussions on college campuses? Hint: It didn’t start with Charlie’s murder, and it won’t end there either. The ADL won’t answer those questions because to answer that question would be to admit how perverted their moral compass has become.
And why is the ADL white-knighting for the entire spectrum of progressive grievance groups anyway? The Anti-Defamation League had a mission originally to defend Jews and Jewish communities from hostile and malicious groups and individuals. The last two years have demonstrated the need for that focus, especially on the American campuses where TPUSA not only tried to defuse extremism but specifically spoke up in defense of Jews and Israel. The true answer to the question that the ADL won’t answer is that they abandoned that mission as the progressive radical Left co-opted the ADL and made it into yet another strident activist center for the advancement of grievances at the expense of public debate and dissent.
And that is one reason why FBI Director Kash Patel will cut ties to the ADL, although not the only reason:

That’s good … for a start. The ADL isn’t the only group with political tentacles into the DoJ, though. The Southern Poverty Law Center has historic links to law enforcement, and it’s time to ensure those end as well — and for the same reasons.
The SPLC listed TPUSA as a hate group earlier this year as well. Despite Charlie’s assassination, it continues to do so. In fact, their monthly report issued the day before Charlie’s murder specifically includes TPUSA on the basis of their opposition to DEI initiatives … and that report remains live on their website. They also were a group that may have had noble purposes at one time, but now exist only as a hate group themselves, fear-mongering over normal political debate and inflaming people into rage over opinions and peaceful engagement.
Both groups are poisonous examples of long marches through institutions by the Left, gutting the good work done and wearing their skins for their own attempts to dominate and control the discourse. The ADL may still have enough self-reflection to be shamed into at least a marginal correction, but not enough to recover any sense of credibility or mission. As Nietzsche once warned, when you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back into you — and maybe that’s the most charitable explanation possible for the despicable turns these organizations and institutions have taken.
