Flying high! Kate Middleton takes economy flight with Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis

Kate Middleton and her children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have been spotted getting off a budget flight to Scotland as they travel to Balmoral to holiday with the Queen.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 40, took the flight to Inverness Airport with her two  youngest children at the weekend alongside their nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo and members of security.

The royal was spotted being escorted from the plane and getting into waiting vehicles, where they are expected to be whisked away to visit the Queen at Balmoral.

Last summer, an insider revealed the annual trip over the last week of August had become a tradition for the family, with the monarch reserving the Bank Holiday weekend for time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A passenger on the plane who spotted the couple posted a clip of the family on TikTok.

The trip comes as it was confirmed today Prince William and Kate will move with their three children George, Charlotte and Louis to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor and send them to the prestigious £21,000-a-year Lambrook School nearby.

The TikTok user said: ‘On a flight to Scotland, Kate Middleton, both kids, nanny and security 2 rows in front of me.

‘Could get a private jet or helicopter but keeping it simple, flying economy,’ added the user.

‘She even got up halfway through the flight to get her daughter’s iPad.

‘And yes she was stunning, even gave me a smile while looking back at row behind her to talk to her son.

‘No one on board took any photos or videos.

‘Just a mum taking her children on holiday to see grandmother, but there was a buzz on board.’

It is not known whether Prince William and Prince George were joining the trio – however the Duke recently flew himself and daughter Princess Charlotte to an engagement in Birmingham, so it’s possible he was doing the same.

In the clip, the Duchess can be seen wearing a green maxi skirt with a smart khaki blazer and dark sunglasses.

The royal walked across the tarmac holding hands with Princess Charlotte, seven, who was dressed in a black and white smock dress with dark tights.

Meanwhile the little royal could be seen carrying her own bag, a pink hold-all.

Nanny Maria followed behind with Prince Louis, who has become known for his boisterous behaviour, trotting along next to her to keep up with his mother.

It’s not the first time that Kate has been spotted travelling with members of the public in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, an athlete claimed the Duchess ‘chatted merrily to eight-year-old boy’ in the first class train carriage on her way to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games this week after his father popped to the bathroom.

Matthew Syed, 51, revealed how he and his son had a surprise encounter with the mother-of-three while travelling on the train on Tuesday.

Writing about the impromptu meeting for The Times, he explained he could hear someone laughing along with his son while he used the toilet – and was stunned to see it was the royal herself.

He said the two were ‘chatting merrily’ and ‘having a whale of a time’, adding: ‘As I am doing my thing, I hear him talking to a woman in the vestibule. ‘Are you here alone?’ she asks. ‘No, my dad is in there’ – he says, pointing to the lavatory.’

The journalist wrote the pair sounded like they were having a ‘whale of a time’ and were laughing as he heard Ted tell Kate ‘that his father once won the Commonwealth gold’.

Last summer, royal experts claimed the Duke and Duchess and their children spent a ‘special’ week holidaying with the Queen in Balmoral.

Writing in Vanity Fair, Katie Nicholl said the Cambridges had enjoyed ‘long walks in the countryside, fishing, riding and cycling’.

A source said: ‘William, Kate, and the children have been enjoying some family time in Scotland and they have just spent some special time with the Queen.’

They said: ‘In the past it has turned into one big sleepover with lots of the Queen’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her Majesty enjoys it immensely.’

The royal expert also reported the Queen has been known to leave gifts for her grandchildren on their beds during their stay at Balmoral.

The monarch arrived at the Aberdeenshire estate in late July and typically remains until early October.

The Cambridge’s visit comes as it was announced the Duke and Duchess are to move to Berkshire and royal aides have now revealed their children will all go to same same school, seven miles from their new home, from September.

William and Kate are said to want to give the youngsters a country upbringing and want to be closer to the Duchess’s parents, Michael and Carole Middleton.

A source said: ‘This is very much a decision that two parents have made to give their children the ‘most normal’ start possible. KP can be a little bit of a fishbowl. They wanted to be able to give George, Charlotte and Louis a bit more freedom than they have living in central London. It’s very much a decision that’s been led by the kids.’

William and Kate are understood to want to be closer to the Queen, who has suffered various health issues over the past year – and this will position them in a new era where they are taking over more important royal roles.

Adelaide Cottage will be William and Kate’s fourth property if including a holiday home in Scotland. William was given the Tam-Na-Ghar cottage on the Balmoral estate by his great-grandmother the Queen Mother in 2002.

The Cambridges will use the pretty 19th century Adelaide Cottage as their base after the Queen gave them permission to lease the four-bedroom Grade II listed cottage, which belongs to the Crown Estate. It was built for Queen Adelaide in 1831 and is nestled a ten-minute walk from Windsor Castle in the private Home Park.

William and Kate had been known to have set their heart on the outdoorsy preparatory school Lambrook, with its 52 acres of grounds, for their youngsters where fees will cost William and Kate in excess of £50,000 a year.

Kensington Palace confirmed the family will be moving to Adelaide Cottage before the school term begins. A spokesman for the couple said today: ‘The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have today announced that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will attend Lambrook School in Berkshire from September 2022.

‘Their Royal Highnesses are hugely grateful to Thomas’s Battersea where George and Charlotte have had a happy start to their education since 2017 and 2019 respectively and are pleased to have found a school for all three of their children which shares a similar ethos and values to Thomas’s.’
