Former Australian Idol judge Mark Holden uses Channel Seven interview to settle an old score with Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson, after claiming he was ‘fired’ from the talent show

It was a feud that kept viewers glued to Australian Idol back in the mid-2000s.

And it appears Mark Holden still has a score to settle with his old friend and rival Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson.

The 68-year-old took time out during an interview on Channel Seven’s The Morning Show on Friday to slap down the former Australian Idol judge.

Asked about Channel Seven’s reboot of the popular singing contest Holden appeared to be enthusiastic: ‘It’s the best show on television.’

He said there had been no better judging panel on the show than when he was teamed with singer Marcia Hines and radio superstar Kyle Sandilands.

Holden then added: ‘Screw Dicko.’

The one-time pop star was sacked as a judge on Australian Idol during the show’s heyday in 2007 and later blamed Dickson for his demise.

He was appearing on The Morning Show with former Australian Idol contestant Joel Turner to promote the Mulletfest event on Saturday.

But the former star kept interrupting the chat to take further swipes at Dickson, much to the bewilderment of Morning Show co-hosts Sally Bowrey and Sam Mac.

Known on Australian Idol for using the catchphrase ‘that’s a touchdown’, in praising performances, Holden dismissed a question from Bowrey to ask, ‘Do you remember Dicko’s great catch call [on Australian Idol]?’

After a few very awkward moments of silence, Bowrey admitted she did not.

Meanwhile, Sam Mac caught on to Holden’s dig at Dickson: ‘Oh, I see what’s happening, he’s throwing shade at Dicko,’ the co-host said.

‘You got him Mark, you got got him.’

Sam Mac later had his own dig at Holden: ‘This started out as a chat about Mulletfest, but this is now a campaign to get Mark Holden back on Australian idol,’ he joked, as Holden laughed along.

In it, he claimed he was fired from the talent show due to his strained relationship with former friend Dicko.

‘When I was fired it was a such a shock, I didn’t see it coming,’ he said at the time.

‘I was so publicly humiliated. It was an enormous kick in the guts and I realised I’d been outplayed by Dicko.’
