Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders has a new teammate in a former Detroit Lions quarterback for the new season.
When it comes to dream defensive ends for the Detroit Lions, Aidan Hutchinson is our first guy, and many would love to see Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders as a Lion, too. Crosby is a Michigan native and has the fight and grit that would make him a perfect fit for this team. It would be a major thrill to see Crosby somehow get traded to the Lions, but that likely isn’t going to happen.
Crosby has made it very clear that he’s a Las Vegas Raider for life, and their new head coach, Pete Carroll from the Seattle Seahawks, is treating Crosby like a lifer, too. So, the Lions won’t be donning Crosby in the Honolulu Blue anytime soon, but a former Detroit Lions player is going to be on the same team as Crosby.
The Detroit Lions have gone through a rash of backup quarterbacks over the years, their latest being Hendon Hooker, who got released on August 26. Hooker was quickly signed by the Carolina Panthers, but there’s another former Lions quarterback who’s going to Vegas. What happens in Vegas stays there, right?
Ex-Detroit Lions Quarterback Gets Big Gig
On Monday, September 1, Aaron Wilson of KPRC-2 reported that quarterback Jeff Driskel has been inked to the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad. Driskel, 32, has played with a lot of teams in the NFL, including the Lions.
Specifically, Driskel has played for six different teams in the NFL over the past seven years, and that doesn’t include teams where he was just on the practice squad. He was with the Washington Commanders during the 2024 season.
As for his time in the Lions, in 2019, Driskel started in three games for Detroit. In those games, he completed 59 percent of his passes for four touchdowns and four interceptions. Now, he’ll be with the Raiders, but unless he moves off the practice squad, he won’t share the field with Crosby too often.
Another Former Lions Quarterback Gets Gruff
Since former Lions signal-caller Hooker has signed with the Carolina Panthers, he’s made it clear that he thinks he’s going somewhere that he’s wanted, unlike with the Lions. The former Lions signal-caller spoke with reporters in Carolina about his move to the Carolina Panthers and threw some shade the Lions’ front office and coaching staff during his talk.
“I just wanted to go somewhere I was wanted,” Hooker said. “And wanted to develop and learn, and Coach told me that he would like me to come learn under him, and we have a great bond from the draft process, just reminiscing on those talks that we had then, I’m eager to learn from him.”
The Detroit Lions will open their regular season against the Green Bay Packers in Green Bay on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 4:25 p.m. Eastern time. While the Packers were already viewed as one of the strongest teams in the NFC North, next to the Lions, they just got even stronger with the addition of Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys. Let’s hope Campbell has some amazing game plans to keep Parsons and the Packers at bay.
