Giants Rookie WR Continues Unlikely Emergence at Minicamp

Day 1 of New York Giants’ mandatory minicamp featured another rookie wide receiver standout.

There has been a lot of talk about New York Giants rookie wide receiver Beaux Collins throughout OTAs, but fellow undrafted prospect Dalen Cambre has consistently stood out too, and he continued his emergence on day one of mandatory minicamp.

“Another UDFA standing out today: Dalen Cambre,” SNY’s Connor Hughes reported on June 17. He added that Cambre is “seeing increased action, too. [And] caught all three passes from Jameis Winston on [a] drive the field drill, including the final (a touchdown).”

NorthJersey.com beat writer Art Stapleton seconded Hughes’ observation as well, noting that Cambre “wore out the third team coverage” working with Winston.

But the rookie saved his best highlight for last, teaming up with fellow rookie Jaxson Dart.

“Jaxson Dart finished minicamp practice with a 25-yard dart deep down the right sideline to Dalen Cambre for a TD,” ESPN NYG beat reporter Jordan Raanan relayed on X. The “gorgeous throw” gained a ton of attention due to the quarterback who threw it, so it went a little under the radar that Cambre was the recipient who beat coverage once again.

Hughes called both Collins and Cambre players to “keep an eye on” come training camp.

Giants’ ‘Underdog’ WR Dalen Cambre Highlighted as Potential Special Teams Ace Ahead of Minicamp

Big Blue View beat reporter Ed Valentine published a feature on Cambre on June 16, just before the start of mandatory minicamp.

“Dalen Cambre is probably the biggest underdog on the New York Giants’ 90-man roster,” Valentine began. “Cambre is a 6-foot, 192-pound undrafted free agent who caught 10 passes in a five-year collegiate career with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.”

With a collegiate track record like that, Valentine acknowledged that his readers might be wondering why the Giants would even sign a UDFA wide receiver like that. And that’s a fair question.

The answer: special teams impact.

“He is a tremendous special teams player, having earned first-team All-America honors from Pro Football Focus and second-team from College Football Network,” the Big Blue View reporter informed. “Cambre had nine special teams tackles in 2024 and was the team’s holder for placekicks. He made 17 tackles over the past three seasons… blocked two punts and returned a fumble for a touchdown during his time at Louisiana.”

The odd part is that Cambre has impressed as a wide receiver early on at OTAs and minicamp, which certainly helps his case to make the 53-man roster.

Dalen Cambre Has Quietly Made Plays All Throughout Giants’ OTAs

Cambre hasn’t gotten as much fanfare as Jalin Hyatt or Collins, among others, but in just about every media-present practice this spring, the UDFA has made at least one big play. Most times, though, he’s done it without much recognition.

A good example of this came on June 12, when the Giants’ social media team posted a Winston highlight on X. They captioned the video, “Jameis with the sideline dot,” but failed to mention who caught the pass.

For those paying attention, it was Cambre. The back of his jersey comes into focus just before the end of the clip.

Plays like these have been occurring all throughout Giants’ OTAs, as Cambre has displayed an ability to separate from coverage. Given his 4.43-second 40-yard speed, perhaps Cambre could develop into an explosive deep threat that catches defenders by surprise.
