Home and Away royalty Lynne McGranger lit up the red carpet at the 65th TV WEEK Logie Awards on Sunday night

Home and Away royalty Lynne McGranger lit up the red carpet at the 65th TV WEEK Logie Awards on Sunday night.

The 71-year-old actress stole the spotlight in a show-stopping golden gown, gearing up for what may be the biggest night of her career.

Lynne, who has played the beloved Irene Roberts for more than three decades, arrived at The Star in Sydney in a glamorous off-the-shoulder satin creation.

She completed the look with a dramatic train and sculpted bodice that perfectly complemented the night’s glitzy atmosphere.

McGranger is heading into the ceremony as the clear favourite to win the coveted Gold Logie, with her odds shortening from $3.50 to just $1.70 in the past week.

And if she does win, she won’t be the only one celebrating.

‘My son-in-law messaged me when the news broke about the Gold Logie,’ she revealed this week.

‘He said, “I just got you at $3.50 – I put $100 on you”, and then he said, “That’s ridiculous, your odds should be much shorter than that!”

‘But then within a week, I was $1.70, so now he is very chuffed.

‘If I have to get up and make a speech, I’ll make it known publicly that he just made $350 off me!’

While she’s taking her front-runner status in her stride, McGranger admits winning would be an emotional full stop to her 33-year run on Home and Away.

She announced earlier this year that she would be leaving the soap, with her final scenes – which see Irene facing a heartbreaking Alzheimer’s diagnosis – set to air in the coming weeks.

Fans have been invited to say goodbye via a special tribute website, www.goodbyeirene.com.au, and can show their support by voting for her at the Logies.

‘It’s humbling and really overwhelming to even be nominated,’ she said.

‘If I had known this was going to happen, I would have left years ago! But in all seriousness, I am loving the ride – I really am.’

McGranger faces stiff competition from Sonia Kruger, Ally Langdon, Hamish Blake, Julia Morris, Lisa Millar and Poh Ling Yeow for the Gold Logie.

But her legion of fans – and the bookies – are betting this could finally be her golden year.
