Elon Musk's ex Grimes has given some rare insight into their co-parenting dynamic, admitting that they clash over their differing views on screen time

Elon Musk’s ex Grimes has given some rare insight into their co-parenting dynamic, admitting that they clash over their differing views on screen time.

The singer, 37, who shares five-year-old son X Æ A-12, four-year-old daughter Dark Sideræl, and three-year-old son Techno Mechanicus with the world’s richest man, took to X this week to gush over how in awe of her kids she was.

But she then opened up about a ‘huge debate’ she was having with Musk, 54, over a highly controversial parenting topic: screen time for young children.

‘I try to never talk about or show my kids because they deserve the right to anonymity but I just have to say their pure aura is unmatched,’ Grimes wrote in a tweet shared on Thursday.

‘One of them even inexplicably commanded a flock of crows for while. Might be biased but this seems unusual,’ she added.

One fan then replied and asked Grimes if they ‘get screen time.’

‘Huge debate [because] the other parent is fine with it but it’s fairly avoided,’ she responded.

‘If it happens we focus on great art and ideally slower stuff like [Studio] Ghibli that isn’t constantly changing context.’

Following the birth of their third child, Grimes sued Musk in September 2023 over parental rights to their children in a California court.

Musk allegedly fought to keep the hearing closed, asking for the documents to be sealed.

The singer revealed in November last year that she has been in a year-long custody battle with Musk, during which time she allegedly did not see one of her children for five months.

Musk sued for custody of the children he shares with Grimes in Texas, where his businesses are headquartered.

Grimes then counter-sued filing a ‘petition to establish parental relationship’ in a California court, typically seen as the first step in suing for custody for unmarried parents.

She claimed that Musk was withholding access to her kids and even prevented them from seeing their terminally ill maternal grandmother.

A Travis County Clerk confirmed that the Texas dispute had been settled, but declined to give further details.

Grimes has since claimed the ordeal almost left her ‘bankrupt’ and unable to make new music.

The musician has also publicly feuded with Musk – who is the father to 11 other kids – in the past over wanting to keep their children out of the public eye.

Last year, the SpaceX founder took their son X to many star-studded appearances, including a few alongside Donald Trump.

In a February interview, Grimes shared her desire for X’s high-profile appearances to decrease as soon as possible.

‘I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere. I think fame is something you should consent to,’ she told Time magazine.

‘Obviously, things will just be what they are. But I would really, really appreciate that. I can only ask, so I’m just asking.’

One month later, she issued a plea on X to her ‘kids’ dad to keep them offline.’

‘I have tried begging the public and my kids’ dad to keep them offline, and I’ve tried legal recourse,’ she began in a series of posts.

‘I’ve seen young people destroyed by the internet. The state of my children’s lives being public is of grave concern to me and I think about how to solve this every day.

‘It’s insane to me that there’s no way to deal with this. I would hope there was some law that would allow a parent to veto small children from living public lives but I don’t even trust the law to help me now if I tried to invoke it to be honest.’
