Holland Taylor opens up about her and Sarah Paulson's relationship

Holland Taylor revealed that the secret to her eight-year relationship with Sarah Paulson is their ability to let each other be.

“I think we each follow our own path so we’re not exactly the same,” the “Two and a Half Men” alum, 80, told Page Six exclusively at the 2023 Second Stage Theater Fall Gala, which honored the “American Horror Story” star, 48, on Nov. 6.

“We do some things separately so everyone gets to be true to what they believe,” she continued. “She’s much more social, and I like a little bit of alone time, so I have that. She spends some time with friends and not with me, so it’s a good balance.”

The couple, who began dating in 2015, initially raised eyebrows over their nearly 32-year age gap.

However, Paulson pooh-poohed the chatter in a 2018 interview.

“If anyone wants to spend any time thinking I’m strange for loving the most spectacular person on the planet, then that’s their problem,” she told Modern Luxury at the time. “I’m doing just fine.”

Although the “American Crime Story” star is unfazed now, there was a time when she was skeptical of bringing her relationship into the spotlight because people warned her that it may negatively affect her career.

“It occurred to me, ‘Should I not?’ And then I thought, ‘Why would I not?’” she recalled to the Edit in 2017. “The fact I’m having this thought is wrong. But I had a moment of societal concern; wondering if, maybe, people who didn’t know that about me would be like, ‘Wait, what?’ But then, you know, I did it anyway.”

Over the years, the pair have been vocal about their mutual admiration and love.

In 2021, Paulson posted a black-and-white photo on Instagram in honor of Taylor’s birthday.

“All roads lead me to this face, those eyes, that soul,” she captioned it. “You are, quite simply- everything to me. Here’s looking at you, kid. Today. Tomorrow. Always.”

And years earlier, the “Practice” star gushed about their romance.

“I’m the luckiest person in the world. I can’t talk about my life today and not mention this wonderful love,” she said on a SiriusXM show in 2017.

Paulson is currently getting ready to star in a new play on Broadway called “Appropriate.” The production also features “Billions” star Corey Stoll, “The Great” actress Elle Fanning and “Succession” alum Natalie Gold.

Taylor, who has only seen Paulson on stage before they were an item, is excited to check out the play and admitted she may even cry a little.

“I’m sure [I will] because first of all, she’s a really, really moving and exciting actress, not like anyone. She’s her own thing, and this part is great,” she told us.

Other celebs at the gala included Beanie Feldstein, Jessica Lange and Lindsay Mendez, who is winning praise for her role in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along.”
