Home cook Juliette Moreno shared a videoof her 'refrigerator tiramisu drawer' creation

A home cook has shared the recipe for a ‘tiramisu drawer’ – but her twist on the classic Italian dessert instantly had thousands up in arms.

Juliette Moreno – who regularly shares her unique food creations on her social media – posted a 14-second video explaining how her version of the dessert is made.

‘Let’s restock my refrigerator tiramisu drawer,’ she announced at the start, smiling as she held up the storage unit from her fridge.

‘I restock this every week because I can’t go a day without tiramisu.’

Demonstrating her creation, Juliette started by taking an empty fridge drawer – like the kind you’d use to store fruit and veg – and placing it on the kitchen bench.

Next, she soaked traditional tiramisu sponge biscuits – known as Ladyfingers – in coffee, just as a tiramisu recipe typically requires. But instead of layering them into a dish or even a container, she placed them directly into the fridge drawer.

‘Just add layers of Ladyfingers, whipped cream and top with cocoa powder,’ she cheerily continued, adding biscuit and cream until the entire drawer was filled.

She then opened the sliding fridge drawer to reveal the finished dessert. Also visible inside the refrigerator were a shelf of salad leaves above the tiramisu drawer and another below filled with raw chicken and other meats.

‘If you’re craving something sweet, it’s so fun to just take a scoop. I think everyone needs this in their fridge,’ she concluded in the post shared to her @itsmeju1iette account.

The viral video has since been viewed six million times and has seen thousands weigh in – with the vast majority sharing their misgivings about the diabolical creation.

‘I love dessert but no one needs a tiramisu drawer,’ read one reply.

‘Serious or not, it’s gross that anyone even thought of this concept,’ another said.

A third summed up the main sticking points, replying: ‘I don’t know what to get angry at the most, the fact it’s in a drawer, that she’s using whipped cream or the way she says tiramisu.’

Many viewers were concerned by the hygiene and freshness issues resulting from building the dessert directly into the fridge drawer.

‘Today, let’s make salmonella,’ one joked.

‘I love tiramisu but it’s not worth the listeria,’ agreed another.

‘No way this is safe or sanitary,’ said one reply.

Other hygiene-conscious viewers observed that the drawer had no lining and wasn’t sealed or airtight.

Some wondered why she didn’t simply use a baking dish or large container, which  would be just as effective.

‘Girl, invest in Tupperware,’ urged one person.

Commenters were also aghast at the dessert living openly in the fridge without any enclosure, worrying about the potential for cross-contamination.

‘That would absorb every odour in the fridge,’ one pointed out, while another added that the dessert ‘would taste like everything else you have in your fridge.’

‘Wait until raw chicken drips into that drawer,’ warned another comment.

Some speculated that cleaning fridge drawers isn’t easy at the best of times, let alone when they’re filled with a creamy dessert.

‘The thought of cleaning that drawer is giving me anxiety,’ read one reply.

The bizarre idea of using a chilled drawer – instead of a regular container or dish – also sparked loads of humorous responses – including one from Australia’s very own TV chef, Colin Fassnidge.

‘I use mine for soup,’ the MKR judge jokingly replied, with his comment quickly attracting hundreds of likes and “crying-laughing” emojis.

Some responses quipped about other unlikely vessels that could be used to house tiramisu.

‘I use my glove compartment. If we’re running late, the kids literally have breakfast out of it,’ joked one person.

‘I don’t have a fridge, will this work in a bathtub?’ queried another.

‘Emptied my fish tank and used that,’ chimed in a third.

Many people were simply stunned at the sheer quantity of tiramisu in the drawer – along with Juliette’s claim to eat it ‘every week’.

‘Are you actually eating all that?’ asked one person.

Another replied: ‘Oh my word I’d be as big as a refrigerator if I did that.’

Meanwhile, many say the funny side to the video.

‘The real crime here is using whipped cream instead of mascarpone,’ one joked.

‘Mascarpone has left the chat,’ joked another.

Purists were flabbergasted by the whole spectacle.

‘I told my Italian husband I might try this. The word “divorce” came up a few times,’ read one reply.

‘I’m too European for this,’ offered another.

‘I AIN’T EVEN ITALIAN AND I’M OFFENDED,’ shouted a third.

However, some appeared to be on board with Juliette’s fridge dessert.

‘This is genius,’ one said.

‘I’d bring the whole drawer into my bedroom with a massive serving spoon,’ confessed another.

‘This should be a staple drawer in every fridge!’ laughed one reply, before adding, ‘But thank God it’s not!’

Others even felt inspired to create their own refrigerator dessert drawers.

‘Now you got me wanting an ice cream drawer in my freezer to go with it,’ said one person.

‘Thinking about a banana pudding drawer,’ added another.

Ultimately though, most agreed this was probably not Juliette’s finest food creation.

‘This is why you can’t eat at anyone’s house,’ declared one person.

Another concluded: ‘Never having tiramisu again after seeing this.’
