One of world's most famous bridesmaids had all eyes on her as she finally became the blushing bride herself

In 2011 she became one of the world’s most famous bridesmaids thanks to the sleek dress she wore to her sister Kate’s royal wedding.

Six later it was Pippa Middleton’s turn to become a blushing bride when she tied the knot with hedge fund manager James Matthews.

The couple married St. Mark’s Church in Englefield, West Berkshire on May 20, 2017.

Fast forward six years, James, now 47, and Pippa, now 39, have since welcomed three children into the world, Arthur in 2018 followed by their first daughter Grace in 2021 and their youngest Rose, last year.

On their six-year wedding anniversary, The Mail’s new Royals section takes a look at how Pippa and James’ special day unfolded…

The dress

Rumours had built up for months, as everyone was eager to find out what kind of dress the youngest Middleton daughter would be wearing on her wedding day.

It seems she channeled her older sister Kate, opting like her for a classy lace wedding dress.

Pippa truly was the blushing bride as she dazzled guests in her bespoke lace gown by British designer Giles Deacon.

Bridalwear experts commented on her strikingly beautiful pearlescent white gown, with couture designer Edwing D’Angelo previously telling The Telegraph: ‘I love the lace, it looks so clean, so pristine, she looked immaculate.’

Designer Charlotte Balbier added: ‘She’s got the key hole back detail which is how to show a bit of skin without being too much.

‘I believe if you’re going to show off the back detail then you must go high at the front, and she’s done that. I love the high neck, that’s my favourite part.’

Pippa wowed guests as as she arrived at the picturesque St Mark’s Church in Englefield in an open top gun metal grey 1951 Jaguar Mk V with her father Michael.

Prince George who was three at the time and Princess Charlotte, then two, stole the show as the adorable siblings took on the role of page boy and bridesmaid.

Pippa is said to dislike the term ‘flower girl’ despite that being the tradition for younger members of the wedding party.

The crowed cooed as the adorable toddlers were assembled at the entrance and then walked out in front of the happy couple, with Kate helping to usher them into position.

George were dressed in a collared button-up beige and white shirt and beige trousers, while his sister sported a cute ivory dress with a blush pink bow and flower crown along with a little basket.

But it seems the excitement may have been too much for little George, who was tearful.

While Kate did her best to calm down the the little heir, he continued throwing his tantrum, and so he was given a rare telling off by the Princess of Wales, who was determined to prevent anything from disrupting her little sister’s big day.

Newlyweds Pippa and James then drove from Englefield House back to Bucklebury in their convertible Jaguar E-Type, waving and smiling at wellwishers along the 1.5 mile drive.

An expensive 140 feet long glass marquee had been hired for the evening reception to host 300 guests – thought to cost around £100,000.

An impressive Spitfire fighter plane also made an appearance and did an aerial performance for guests.

The pair then jetted off to the romantic French Polynesia before going down under to Sydney, Australia.

Guest list drama with Meghan

According to the book Finding Freedom, written by royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, both Pippa and her mother Carole Middleton ‘harboured concerns’ that Meghan and Harry’s presence might ‘overshadow’ the ceremony.

Meghan put ‘careful thought into her outfit’ but that was not enough as it goes on to say: ‘The day of the nuptials, a newspaper ran a cover story, ‘It’s Meghan v Pippa in the…Wedding of the Rears,’ accompanied by a rear-view paparazzi picture of Meghan in yoga pants leaving a central London yoga studio that week side by side with the infamous photo of Pippa from behind during Kate’s 2011 wedding ceremony.

‘Harry and Meghan agreed that she couldn’t possibly turn up at the church, only 50 metres away from a specially arranged media pen, after such a crass cover story.’

The authors say that Harry and Meghan then came up with a plan, which saw them  drive out to Berkshire on the day of the wedding. Meghan stayed in an Airbnb that a close friend and wedding guest had rented on her behalf, while Harry attended the church service in Englefield.

Meghan then did her own makeup and got dressed into a ‘decidedly unflashy long black gown’.

Harry then travelled back to the Airbnb for a spot of lunch with Meghan before he drove them both to the reception at the Middleton’s Bucklebury home.

The book claims that Pippa didn’t want couples sit together at the wedding reception. It reads: ‘Sitting together in the custom glass marquee that had been erected on the 18 acre property should’ve been a fun night for the couple, but as per Pippa’s request, no couples sat together.’

Harry and Meghan then apparently ‘reunited’ near the dance floor, where they spoke about their ‘evening apart’. They left at around 2am, where a protection officer drove them back to Kensington.

A wedding crasher?

Harriet, the wife of Nick Wynne-Jones (the priest that was marrying Pippa and James) received a peculiar call from a Scottish woman that wanted to know the time of the wedding, the Telegraph reported.

The woman had made the trip down from Glasgow in the hopes to attend Pippa’s wedding.
