Eagles Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Brown insists he isn’t bothered by his quiet performance in Week 1.
Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spoke to the media this morning about the A.J. Brown’s future with the team.
As Mike Garafolo noted, he stopped short of offering a definitive answer when asked whether the team would consider trading wide receiver A.J. Brown.
However, his response made clear how highly the organization values the star receiver.
Rather than addressing the trade question directly, Roseman focused on Brown’s impact and importance.
He emphasized how difficult it is to acquire elite talent in today’s NFL:
“It’s hard to find great players in the NFL and A.J.’s a great player,” Roseman said.
“That’s what we’re going out and looking for, when we go out in free agency and the Draft, is trying to find great players who love football and he’s that guy. So that would be my answer.”
While Roseman avoided making any firm declaration about Brown’s future, his praise underscored that the Eagles continue to view Brown as a key piece of their roster.
A.J. Brown Trade Rumors
Speculation around A.J. Brown’s continues to build.
This has been fueled by public frustration during the last two seasons and his sideline outburst with head coach Nick Sirianni against the 49ers that drew national attention.
Brown was clearly unhappy at times within the offense.
He declined to speak to reporters following the Eagles’ playoff loss, and has not addressed his future publicly in over a month.
That silence, combined with an uneven 2025 campaign and lingering questions about offensive direction with a new OC, has kept trade talk alive.
Trading A.J. Brown before June 1 would trigger a massive $43.5 million dead cap hit, one of the largest in NFL history.
But from a purely financial standpoint, moving Brown is not impossible.
Cap analysts have noted that the Eagles could absorb the hit over time if they believed a reset was necessary.
If a potential trade were to be made, it would hurt Philly in the short term, but it is not structurally prohibitive.
Adam Schefter Floats Trade Possibility
The noise intensified this week when Adam Schefter said on Philadelphia radio that he expects A.J. Brown’s name to come up in trade talks.
He even floated the New England Patriots as a potential landing spot under Mike Vrabel, his old coach.
That report added real weight given Schefter’s track record.
But Roseman’s response had a disputing tone when asked directly about the situation on Wednesday.
While Roseman did not shut the door completely, he strongly emphasized how rare and valuable elite players like Brown are.
He gave the star receiver his praise and emphasized his value to the team.
The message didn’t fully eliminate trade talk, but it did signal that the Eagles are not actively looking to move their star receiver, even as outside speculation continues to say so.
With the offseason just getting started as it is only January 15, there’s still plenty of time for this situation to evolve.
Over the next seven months, we will find out what Roseman’s intentions truly are.
