Hunted Australia, which was produced by Endemol Shine, was filmed in Melbourne and has been described as a ‘real-life game of cat and mouse’.

Travelling in pairs, the fugitives have only limited resources to escape detection in the field.

The nail-biting trailer suggests a paranoid atmosphere as the contestants eventually realise they can trust no one but themselves.

In the opening scenes, a control room full of investigators watch as the fugitives are released at Federation Square, in the heart of the city centre.

‘We have 18 fugitives in two vehicles headed towards the Melbourne area,’ a voice is heard saying from the control room.

The contestants are then released from two black vans.

They race in all directions as their every move is tracked and monitored by sophisticated surveillance technology.

The trailer ends with investigators yelling at the fugitives to stop.

The hunters in the Australian version consist of ex-AFP and ADF personnel, as well as cyber analysts and veterans of British intelligence.

The British series premiered in 2015. There have been five civilian versions in the UK plus three celebrity seasons.

Hunted has spawned a number of international versions in the U.S., Spain, Denmark, Russia and the Netherlands.
