Hurricanes Coach's Reaction To Top Prospect's 2-Goal Game

Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour gave one of his top prospects a huge opportunity.

Rod Brind’Amour has overseen the development of the Carolina Hurricanes roster over the last several seasons. Players such as Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis, and Jaccob Slavin have also become star-level talents under Brind’Amour. Carolina is hoping Bradly Nadeau is the next player to take that sort of development track.

Nadeau is a former first-round pick of Carolina back in 2023. The 20-year-old dominated the British Columbia Hockey League during his draft year. He then produced at a level for the University of Maine before turning pro in 2024-25.

Nadeau scored 32 goals and 58 points for the AHL’s Chicago Wolves last year. His debut season as a professional could not have gone better for the 20-year-old. Now, he is looking to crack the Hurricanes roster. And Brind’Amour gave him a huge opportunity on Sunday.

Nadeau played on the second line for Carolina in their preseason clash against the Nashville Predators. It was an opportunity he did not squander, either. The 20-year-old scored two goals as the Hurricanes pulled out a 3-1 victory.

After the game, Brind’Amour was asked for his assessment of the performance. He mentioned that this was the sort of effort he wanted to see. Nadeau played alongside the likes of Logan Stankoven, Jordan Staal, and Jordan Martinook. With that sort of talent around him, he had to come through.

“You want to see that. You want to see the progression. Certainly, the confidence, you can see it. You play him with the top guys tonight and it should look that way, when you think about it. The NHL guys, they should look like that, and putting him in that mix, he didn’t look out of place,” Brind’Amour said, via Hurricanes reporters Walt Ruff and Peter Dewar.

Bradly Nadeau Playing Simple Brand Of Hockey

It’s hard for any player Nadeau’s age to compete at a high level in the NHL. It can take years to settle into the speed and physicality of the league. However, the 20-year-old has looked good this preseason. His two-goal effort certainly helps his case for a roster spot.

Sometimes, players overthink their game and make mistakes. They try to do too much in an effort to impress the coaching staff. This is not an issue for Nadeau, though. His main objective is playing a straightforward style of hockey and avoiding any overcomplications.

“The more experience you get out there, the more comfortable you feel. To play with good players like that helps. You just try to keep it simple and do your job,” the Hurricanes prospect said, via Ruff and Dewar.

Hurricanes’ Nadeau Leaving Everything On The Ice

Nadeau may not play top-six minutes in the NHL if he makes this team. Carolina has Jarvis, Nikolaj Ehlers, Andrei Svechnikov, and Jackson Blake on the wings. It’s hard to crack the top-six with this sort of depth ahead of him.

At the same time, he could still bring value as an offensive-minded third-line winger. He could score needed goals when the top stars are off their game. And he could gain valuable experience early in his career.

What Carolina does with him remains to be seen. It does not matter, though. Nadeau is going put everything he has into trying to make the roster this fall.

“I don’t know what’s happening tomorrow, but it’s just about keep working hard until the end and see what happens there. Whether it’s practice or a game tomorrow, I’ll give it all I’ve got and see where things go from there,” the 20-year-old said, via Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News.
