American woman Jasmine Parniani animatedly recounted the story about the time she matched with a man who had a recent vow renewal registry

A young woman matched with a gorgeous man on an online dating app – but it didn’t take her long to figure out that he wasn’t who he seemed.

‘Let’s talk about the time I matched with a guy and then I found his wedding registry, because I think we should talk about it,’ Jasmine Parniani said in a video.

The LA-based comedian detailed the time she’d matched with the man and was instantly enamoured.

‘Gorgeous man, has a six-pack, gorgeous smile, beautiful face, from England, loves to cook,’ Jasmine listed, adding that she was ‘so excited to match with this guy’.

After quickly agreeing to swap numbers, they began texting back and forth. But upon returning to more closely inspect a photo in his profile, Jasmine spotted a worrying detail.

‘I catch in one of his pictures: he’s got a wedding ring on,’ she said.

She then started more vigilantly analysing other photos on his profile – and sure enough, spotted him wearing a wedding ring in some of the other pictures.

‘And I’m thinking “I love a mystery!”‘ she laughed.

By this point, the man had provided Jasmine with ‘so much information’ about himself, and she was able to easily use these ‘little titbits and facts’ to find out who he really was.

After figuring out his full name via his employer’s company director, she typed it into a Google search – and instantly hit paydirt.

‘What pops up? The Knot. A Knot [wedding] registry with a date of a vow renewal the previous week!’

Realising she was now hot on the trail, Jasmine decided to keep digging.

‘I have nothing better to do. So I start diving deep. I find his wife’s LinkedIn. I find his wife works a job that would require her to be gone for long stretches of time,’ she said.

‘And so I’m like, this makes sense, this dirty dog! He’s just renewed his vows last week and he’s already out in the streets!’

A follow-up video saw Jasmine continue to explain that she next found the man’s wife on Instagram and immediately considered sending her a message to alert her of his antics.

Then she noticed that while the man followed his wife on social media, she didn’t follow him back – which she thought was ‘unusual’.

Torn on what to do next, Jasmine consulted her friends, who suggested that rather than out him to the wife, she first give the man a chance to explain the situation.

After arranging a FaceTime call, Jasmine said her potential date was quick to provide an explanation for his marital situation.

‘He comes right out and says: “I’m going through a divorce. The divorce is not finalised”.’

But with the unanswered question of the recent vow renewal remaining, Jasmine seemed unsure whether or not the story she had been told was true.

However, there was one clear message she had for her followers from the whole episode.

‘What I will say is this. When I was Nancy Drew-ing… I found a short film this guy was in from 2016! What I’m trying to say is, it’s too easy to find information,’ she said.

‘You’ve gotta be f***ing careful with how much information you’re giving to strangers on the internet – because there’s people like me who love to find out information for fun!’

The original video and the follow-up received over 1.4 million views combined – and attracted thousands of comments from people enthralled by the unfolding drama.

Many responses did not for one second believe that the man was telling Jasmine the entire truth.

‘Why would you get a renewal ONE WEEK ago while you are getting divorced?’ questioned one comment.

Another agreed: ‘He’s got a renewal from a week before and already on dating sites? Saying “going through a divorce” sounds fishy.’

One reply that received thousands simply stated: ‘Tell the wife… I wouldn’t trust him.’

The comments also revealed a shocking number of people had had a similar experience of meeting a potential beau – onto to do a quick online search that unearthed a registry.

‘I had a great date and then found his wedding website the next day,’ read one reply.

‘After a nasty break-up, I typed [my ex’s] number into Google and a whole baby registry popped up,’ revealed another.

One woman said a man she met in person gave her his business card, but Googling it quickly showed that ‘he had a wedding website and was supposed to get married in two months.’

The replies to Jasmine's video saw many others reveal that they too had had a potential beau outed by a Google search that revealed an online registry

‘So I sent him a friendly little text saying “Are you available September 9 for a date, or are you getting married?!” Then I deleted him.’

‘I sent mine a gift from their baby registry. Stay toxic, ladies,’ read another response.

Another person similarly suggested that Jasmine adopt this strategy.

‘You should have bought the least expensive item on that list with a nice little gift message that says “From your date”.’

But perhaps the main theme from many women in the comments was that although Jasmine’s searching skills went deep, such research is a necessity in today’s modern dating world.

‘We research for personal safety,’ read one reply.

‘ALWAYS DO A BACKGROUND CHECK, LADIES,’ read another response that applauded Jasmine.

Many women also saw the light-hearted side of Jasmine’s ability to deep-dive a person’s identity online with very limited information at hand.

‘Men have no idea how good we are at detective work. And they’re so naive, they make it even easier,’ said one woman.

‘First name, occupation, and current city in Google usually always does the trick,’ agreed another.

‘I’m like the CIA,’ joked another response.
