A-list couple Justin and Hailey Bieber recieved a warm welcome back to the GrammyAwards on Sunday, their first appearance since 2022 - but according to a body language expert, their body language on the red carpet was 'sparse' and 'unusual'

A-list couple Justin and Hailey Bieber received a warm welcome back to the Grammy Awards on Sunday, their first appearance since 2022 – but according to a body language expert, their body language on the red carpet was ‘sparse’ and ‘unusual.’

The pair made a comeback to the awards ceremony in coordinating looks, with Hailey stunning in a strapless black Alaïa dress that featured sheer cutouts on the skirt and thighs.

She completed her look with silver jewelry and a slick-back bun, while Justin cut a cool figure in an oversized black suit and diamond necklace.

The model-turned-cosmetics mogul joined her husband in making a political statement on the red carpet, joining numerous other stars speaking out against the second Trump administration and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

At this year’s ceremony, Justin is nominated for four awards, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, for Swag; Best Pop Solo Performance, for Daisies; and Best R&B Performance, for Yukon.

But while the two took the carpet at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles tonight, their body language didn’t appear to be that of a couple happy to be posing in front of the cameras, according to body language expert Judi James.

‘The couple’s form of silent communication on the red carpet is sparse and unusual,’ James told the Daily Mail.

‘Their tactile behavior increased as they went from spot to spot. At the start, they posed without touching and there was only one moment of touch between them when Hailey bent to straighten her hem and held onto his bicep briefly for balance,’ she explained.

‘By the second pose she had linked her hand into his arm, and they were holding hands later on, but they seem not to be using eye contact at all,’ she continued.

‘Both looked too cool to smile, although Justin did hike his mouth upward at one point to suggest a desire to be seen as more friendly.’

James said that their poses on the carpet showed that they didn’t have a desire to ‘perform’ for the cameras, something that Justin has not been keen on over the years.

‘The lack of any show-pony rituals like kissing or draping suggests no real desire to perform for the cameras emotionally apart from to look both together and cool,’ James revealed.

‘Their poses were complementary with Hailey adopting a high fashion look,’ she said.

‘There were some pointing gestures to show each other where to look or where to stand but they otherwise avoided any power-couple cheese here.’

However, James believed that the appearance showed a marked difference in Justin, as he seemed more confident.

‘Following what have at times looked like his “wilderness” years when his signature look has been baggy casuals and a head-bowed set of aversion signals towards the cameras, Justin arrived on the red carpet with Hailey showing strong signs of repair in terms of confidence and style,’ James said.

‘It was a high-impact look and a lesson in A-list cool,’ she shared.

‘The couple looked elegant here, and although Justin did at first follow Hailey out with his head slightly bowed, he moved on to adopt a pose that made him look like the one in control of the moment, with his legs splayed in a pose of alpha confidence and his hands in his trouser pocket,’ the body language expert added.

The pop superstar last performed at the ceremony in 2022, when he delivered a crowd-pleasing rendition of Peaches, alongside Giveon and Daniel Caesar.

This year he took to the Grammys stage in nothing but his silk boxers, performing his song Yukon to the crowd with his arms crossed over his bare chest.

The couple’s joint appearance comes just weeks after he was accused of ‘liking’ a 2016 image of him kissing ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

He sent tongues wagging when eagle-eyed fans alleged his account had liked a comment under the post – before unliking the comment hours later.

The recent social media trend of sharing images from 2016 is no doubt what led Justin to the throwback shots – leading to fans questioning whether his like was intentional or not, in a flurry of speculative comments.
