‘Beauty in everyday life. I love being from Scotland. I’ve learned how much I do love where I’m from.’

When the house in West Lothian was listed in 2021, the estate agent listing described it as ‘an exceptional and individually built family home’.

At the time, a source said: ‘This property is a good buy for an investor. Imagine owning the house where Lewis Capaldi penned some of his most iconic hits. It’s sure to be worth a fortune in years to come.’

A picture of his bedroom, where he was seen writing songs in the documentary, showed a microphone stand still perched in the corner.

Last December, Lewis bemoaned a £1.6 million home Ed Sheeran recommended to him was a ‘f**king s**thole!’

However, in a new interview, Lewis fumed that the house was a ‘money pit’ and was the ‘bane of my existence’ for months as the property needed extensive renovations after being barded a ‘hell hole’.

Speaking to Zane Lowe, Lewis talked about the purchase of the mansion, admitting that he perhaps ‘didn’t look around enough’ and take in the ‘smell’ before forking out a fortune on it.

‘Oh, I bought a house. I bought a house. It was sent to me by Ed Sheeran. He sent me… He didn’t send me as a house, but he… He’s got a lot,o f f***ing money that guy.

‘No, he sent me the link to it. We became quite close over lockdown, I was asking a lot of questions about second records and blah blah blah, picking his brain a lot. And then I was talking about buying a house and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to move into this place. I’m looking for places around Glasgow.’

‘And then he sent me a link, and I was, ‘Oh, this place looks amazing.’ I went and looked at it and I’m quite like a… I looked at it and I was like, ‘This is great’.’

Recalling his regret at not having observed the property enough, he continued: ‘I didn’t maybe look around enough, I didn’t smell it. Yeah, I got very excited.

Lewis' father Mark then revealed: 'Pat was Carol's sister. She committed suicide.'

‘And I’m here to tell you, the house is a f***ing s***hole. Yeah, it’s a money pit, and it has been the bane of my existence for the last couple of months.’

Ed later offered to buy the property off Lewis.

Sheeran said on US Radio: ‘I just want to say that I didn’t just send him one house, I sent him a bunch and he went to view them. He didn’t just ring them up and say ‘I’ll take it’. He went to view it.

‘I said to him ‘You need to start thinking of what your forever home is going to be, find something you can do up and make into your forever home’.

‘Honestly, if it does make him feel better then I will buy the house off him. If he wants me to buy it, then why not?’

Capaldi has carried out a series of renovations to the mansion, near Glasgow, since he moved out of his parent’s Bathgate home in September 2020.

The complex boasts an extra cottage while the grounds feature a summer house and large terrace.

In April last year, the Scottish hitmaker got the green light to build a stunning swimming pool in the back garden of his £1.6m Glasgow farmhouse.

Lewis lodged plans with East Renfrewshire Council to install a 10m x 5m pool surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

Drawings submitted with the plans reveal the pool will abut the cinema room with views of the back garden.

Separate rooms will contain changing rooms, a spar and a sauna for the pop star to let off some steam in.
