Spencer Jones has been labeled as one of the Yankees’ top trade candidates this offseason
The New York Yankees have returned to the drawing board this offseason after failing to meet expectations once again in 2025. It’s World Series or bust at this point for the Yankees, and the front office will be hard at work over the next few months attempting to build a roster that can get this team over the hump.
Much of the focus for the time being involves which players could be coming to New York this offseason. However, in order to make that happen, some players may have to end up getting moved. According to one MLB insider, one of the Yanks’ top prospects could end up being a highly desired trade chip this offseason.
Yankees Linked to Potential Spencer Jones Trade
The primary goal for the Yankees right now involves loading up their major league roster with as much talent as possible. Adding players through free agency is an obvious way to make that happen, but pulling off trades can help as well. When you are in the position that New York is in, that sometimes leads to top prospects finding new homes.
One of the Yanks’ best young guns in their farm system right now is outfielder Spencer Jones. The team’s No. 4 prospect, Jones is a burly outfielder who has a knack for hitting the ball hard. Jones split time in Double-A and Triple-A last season, hitting .274 with 35 home runs, 80 RBIs, and 29 stolen bases. As he prepares to enter his age-25 season, he appears to be ready for the majors.
The problem is that New York simply does not have a spot available on its roster for Jones. There are certainly a slew of teams that would be willing to give him a shot at finding his way in the majors, though, and if you ask Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, he believes that it could make a lot of sense for the Yankees to move Jones in an effort to bolster some of the weaker areas of their team.
“Trent Grisham’s return to the Bronx solidifies two of New York’s three outfield spots, while the Yankees are still hopeful to bring Bellinger back on a new deal,” Feinsand wrote. “That leaves Jones — the Yankees’ No. 4 prospect — and Jasson Domínguez as players without a spot to get regular playing time. Jones belted 35 home runs with a .933 OPS at Double-A and Triple-A last season, giving the Yankees a prime trade chip if they choose to use it.”
Should the Yankees Trade Spencer Jones?

New York already has two of its outfield spots locked in right now with Aaron Judge and Trent Grisham. If all goes according to plan, Cody Bellinger will be returning to town in free agency, but even if he doesn’t, it feels more likely the Yankees would find a proven star to help round out this trio, rather than turn to Jones.
It’s not that Jones is a bad player, but the Yanks find themselves in a situation where they are expected to win now. Jones could star right away, but he’s not going to really have time to learn on the fly, meaning it may make sense to move him as part of a deal that brings a star player to town. Jones’ future could directly be related to Bellinger’s free agent decision, but even if he doesn’t re-sign with New York, it may make sense to trade Jones this offseason.
