Trade rumors involving the Packers and Romeo Doubs have been shot down
The Green Bay Packers have had an interesting start to the 2025 campaign. After looking like the best team in the league through two weeks, they have lost to the Cleveland Browns and tied the Dallas Cowboys in their past two games. While they have a bye week in Week 5, it’s clear that this team could use a win when it eventually returns to action in Week 6.
Injuries certainly haven’t helped, but the offense has benefited greatly from an increase in production from wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who has essentially become Jordan Love’s top target in the passing game as of late. Trade rumors have continued to swirl around Doubs amid his recent hot streak, but they recently got shot down by NFL insider Jeremy Fowler.
Romeo Doubs Trade Rumors Get Put to Rest
The Packers have been shorthanded at wide receiver as of late, as Christian Watson is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered last season, while Jayden Reed is on injured reserve after suffering a broken clavicle and a Jones fracture in his foot. That has forced Doubs, first-round rookie Matthew Golden, and Dontayvion Wicks into bigger roles on offense.
It’s been Doubs who has emerged as Love’s favorite target, though. In Week 4, Doubs caught six passes for 58 yards and three touchdowns, and while Love spreads the ball around quite a bit, when push comes to shove, he’s going to look Doubs’ way, which could continue even when Reed and Watson get healthy.
Given how many wide receivers the Packers have at their disposal, and the fact that Doubs was suspended by the team just last season, trade rumors have swirled around him over the past year or so. However, given how big a role Doubs has had to take on as of late, and how productive he’s been, Fowler shot down the notion that Green Bay is still looking to trade him.
“The trade rumors surrounding Doubs, who has four touchdowns through four games, never made much sense,” Fowler wrote for ESPN. “That conversation was understandable last season, when the team suspended Doubs for one game for missing practices for personal reasons. But the Packers have shown no interest in trading him, and my sense is they have more interest in potentially extending him.

There’s no doubt that Green Bay will have an abundance of riches at wide receiver when Watson and Reed get healthy, but for the time being, it’s all hands on deck at this position for the Packers. Doubs has had his fair share of struggles with G.B., but with his performance reaching new heights, the team seems more interested in handing him a contract extension than dealing him to another team.
With that in mind, Doubs seems set to continue shouldering a big load on offense for Green Bay moving forward. After a pair of head-scratching results, the Packers‘ bye week has come at a great time, as they will enjoy some downtime before getting back on the field. Once they do return, they will take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6, and if they can’t win that game, it’s safe to say they could be in some serious trouble moving forward.
