There’s something about the winter sales that brings out my most determined shopping instincts. Perhaps it’s the promise of investment pieces at genuinely tempting prices or the thrill of spotting a forever dress hiding amongst the rail of sequinned party leftovers.
Either way, this season I set myself a very specific mission: scour the high street for the best dresses in the winter sales – styles that feel current, wearable and genuinely worth snapping up now – and only keep those that came in under the £100 mark. No filler, no ‘it’s fine for the price’ energy. Just really good dresses.
After several hours of scrolling, filtering and a frankly impressive number of open tabs, I narrowed it down to 28 styles that truly made the cut. Think elevated knit dresses that’ll see you through the rest of winter, polished midis you can wear to work and dinner alike and a few quietly statement options that prove sale shopping doesn’t have to mean boring.
Naturally, the edit spans all the high-street heroes I rely on most. Reiss delivers on premium-feel knits with a contrast-stitch midi that looks far more expensive than its £98 price tag, while Nobody’s Child continues to excel at flattering, easy silhouettes – from ribbed knitted midis to chic denim shirt dresses.
Marks & Spencer also deserves a special mention for some very impressive discounts (I’m talking £18 dresses that wouldn’t look out of place in a much higher price bracket).
There’s also plenty here for those who like their winter dresses with a bit of texture – corduroy, bouclé and mesh all feature – alongside sleek jersey, satin animal prints and tailoring-inspired shapes.
Brands like Whistles, Jigsaw and & Other Stories have some particularly strong contenders if you’re looking for something timeless but modern, while Mango and H&M offer trend-led styles that are ideal for refreshing your wardrobe without overthinking it.
The result? A tightly curated edit of dresses that feel versatile, stylish and very much worth buying now – before sizes inevitably disappear. If you’re in the mood for a winter wardrobe update that doesn’t blow the budget, I genuinely think these are some of the best high-street finds out there right now.
