Jennifer Love Hewitt has addressed her friendship with Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Hewitt seemed dumbfounded by the rumors that she has a rift with her I Know What You Did Last Summer costar.
Chatter that Hewitt and Gellar were on the outs began after the two stars failed to pose together at the July 14 Los Angeles premiere of the reboot.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Hewitt said, ‘I honestly don’t even know what that was or how that all came to be.
‘I just think people don’t want the narrative to be easy. Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?’ she queried.
She then admitted that she has not seen Gellar in 28 years.
‘I haven’t seen Sarah,’ the 9-1-1 star said. ‘Literally, we’ve not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out. That’s why it’s so funny to me.’

Hewitt said people in her circle had encouraged her to enter the fray, but ‘I’m like, “What am I going to say? I’ve not seen her.”‘
The actress, 46, has reprised her role as an older and wiser Julie James in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer, which opened in theaters on Friday.
Gellar’s husband Freddie Prinze Jr is Jennifer’s costar.
Fans also thought it was weird that Hewitt shared the trailer from the new fright flick on social media and didn’t mention her former co-star.
Hewitt said all is fine, however.
‘On my side, we’re good. I have no idea where this is coming from,’ she asserted.
Then at the film’s premiere, Gellar shared a series of photos on social media, seeming to try to silence the gossip as well.
She then said that she has not seen Gellar in about 27 years. ‘I haven’t seen Sarah,’ the 9-1-1 star said. ‘Literally, we’ve not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out. That’s why it’s so funny to me.’ Seen in 1998

‘For everyone asking – I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt, who is fantastic in the movie,’ she stated.
‘I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened,’ she explained.
‘And unfortunately JLH didn’t come to the after party.’
Hewitt, who has admitted to not liking to watch fright flicks is hoping the new release might do so well, she’ll be called into action again.

Gellar’s husband, Prinze Jr, 49, is the only other original cast member from the 1997 movie appearing in the 2025 film.
He told People, ‘I’m really proud of the work that Love and I got to do on screen.’
‘I think it’s the best work we’ve done in all three of the movies that we did together,’ she claimed, adding, ‘And I don’t think it’s close.’
Speaking for Hewitt’s affection for Julie, he said, ‘I know how much this character means to her. She puts everything into this girl and always has since the first movie.’
