The $10 Stone Dry Drying Mat has become a huge hit with shoppers with many claiming they will never use a rack or tea towel to do the dishes again

Home makers are heading into Kmart for a surprising kitchen buy many claim has been a complete gamechanger when it comes to doing the dishes.

The $10 Stone Dry Drying Mat has become a huge hit with shoppers, with many swearing off racks and tea towels for life.

The budget item helps absorb moisture from freshly washed dishes and utensils, while offering a convenient spot for drying and organising on the countertop.

One woman posted a video of the drying mat ‘at work’ which showed the water evaporating in seconds.

She admitted she is ‘late to the party’  with the trend but is excited to see how well the gadget works so far.

She added her husband doesn’t believe her, which is why she took the video.

But people were quick to chime in about why it works.

‘The mats are usually made from diatomaceous earth, which is super porous. This means they soak up water quickly and help it evaporate just as fast, so the mat stays dry and doesn’t get mouldy,’ one woman said.

Others revealed they can’t live without theirs.

‘I got one under my cats water it’s the best,’ one woman said.

‘We have a bigger one for our showers that we got a year ago and they’re still going strong,’ said another.

Some had never heard of the stoneware before.

‘Something I didn’t know I needed and now I need it,’ one woman said.

Another had questions.

‘Does it make the dishes smell?’ asked one.

‘Will it create mould?’ asked another.

The retailer claims the stone helps to absorb moisture from freshly washed dishes.

The stone mat comes with a non slip mat and sandpaper for cleaning.

Some customers have complained it is ‘on the small side’ for drying dishes at 40cm by 30cm.

Others revealed they bought the bigger $15 bathroom mat to use in their kitchen as it is 60cms long.
