One Detroit Lions player is in the dog house with the NFL heading into the team’s Week 4 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff led his team to a huge victory against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023, one that put the Lions on track to become Super Bowl contenders.
Goff is now putting a perfect record against the Chiefs on the line when he leads his team back to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. The veteran quarterback is 2-0 against the Chiefs in his career, which includes one of the most memorable regular-season games of all time.
Jared Goff’s Unreal Stat Line Against Chiefs
The Lions have a chance to make another big statement on Sunday, traveling to Kansas City to face the 2-3 Chiefs. A win would move the Lions to 5-1, putting them on track for a third-straight NFC North title, while also putting the Chiefs further from their goal of a fourth straight Super Bowl appearance.
Goff has been stellar against the Chiefs, winning both of his games against them and turning in a stat line that is almost too good to be believed.
Goff led the Los Angeles Rams to a 54-51 win over the Chiefs in 2018, completing 31-of-49 passes for 413 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. While he didn’t put up such gaudy numbers in Detroit’s 2023 win, Goff still completed 22-of-35 passes for 253 yards and one touchdown.
Goff is off to an efficient start this season, completing a league-leading 75.2% of his passes for 1,187 yards with 12 touchdowns and two interceptions. He helped the Lions bounce back from a season-opening loss to the Green Bay Packers by winning four straight games.
Jared Goff Wants to Make Another Statement
Speaking to reporters this week, Goff recalled that the team’s 2023 win against the Chiefs was a big step in the team’s ascension. The Lions started the previous season 1-6 but ended with wins in eight of their final 10 games, just missing the playoffs.
The Lions opened the 2023 season on the road against the Chiefs in the Thursday night NFL opener, winning 21-20. Goff said it was a huge statement for the Lions.
“I thought that was big,” Goff said, via The Athletic. “And certainly, because they were coming off of winning the Super Bowl and we were coming off of missing the playoffs really, that 9-8 season. So, yeah, that was big. …Coming there to get that W and feel like we beat a team that’s towards the top of the league at that time. And now we hope that teams feel that way about us, and we are having to prove ourselves every week still.”
Though the Chiefs have struggled in the early part of the NFL season, Goff knows they are still a dangerous team. The Lions quarterback said they have become the model of the NFL, remaining at the top of the league year in and year out.
“That’s certainly number one is the consistency over time,” Goff said. “I don’t know how many in a row — AFC championships. It’s incredible. And it’s hard to reload every year after playing a long season like that. So I think that’s what you respect most is their ability over almost a decade now to reload every offseason and come back ready to go.”
