The Maple Leafs called up Dennis Hildeby.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have unfortunately been anything but fully healthy this season, as they’ve experienced numerous injuries to several key players, including the likes of Auston Matthews, Chris Tanev, William Nylander, and both Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll.

Stolarz was injured during Toronto’s pre-game warmup on Saturday evening prior to facing the Ottawa Senators when he was struck in the neck by a shot from Nylander. He immediately left the ice and was announced as having been transported to a local hospital for additional imaging.

Thankfully, the good news is that Stolarz does not appear to have been seriously injured, and was back at practice at the Maple Leafs’ training center on Monday morning with the addition of a neck guard to his equipment.

The Toronto Maple Leafs Have Called Up Dennis Hildeby From The AHL

However, the Maple Leafs have made an “emergency” roster move, calling up goaltender Dennis Hildeby from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.

“G Dennis Hildeby has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies (AHL) on an emergency basis,” the Maple Leafs official PR account tweeted.

Hildeby has played in several games for both the Maple Leafs and Marlies this season. During his time with the Maple Leafs, he amassed a record of 5-6-4 while posting a 2.90 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage.

With the Marlies, Hildeby has gone 7-5-8 while posting a 2.54 goals-against average and a ..901  save percentage.

The Toronto Maple Leafs Did Not Perform Well In Front Of Joseph Woll

The Maple Leafs did not make life easy on Woll, as they gave up 43 total shots on goal in what was eventually a 5-2 loss to the Senators. For Woll, it was the first time in his career since 2021 with the Marlies that he had played on consecutive nights.

Afterward, head coach Craig Berube called out the team for not responding the proper way following the opening 20 minutes of play while also noting the difficulty that Woll must have experienced.

“It is tough on Joseph, for sure,” Berube said. “He played last night, and now he has to prepare. I think he did a great job.

The team has to respond better than that. In the first period, I thought we did. The first was good. It was a good period; we came out with the right attitude. In the second period, it is not very good.

We get ourselves back in the game again in the third, and we just don’t have enough guys who go out and push. We get back in the game, and then we give up another goal. Things like that are tough.”

Meanwhile, forward William Nylander lamented that they didn’t spend enough time generating offensive pressure in Ottawa’s zone.

“I feel like some nights we have been giving up a lot of shots and not being able to generate that much offence, spending a lot of time in D-zone,” Nylander said. “If we spend some more time in the O-zone, we can relieve some of that pressure on Joe tonight on the back-to-back.

“But, I mean, I think the battle, it’s hard now.”
