Margot Robbie reveals 'dorky' actress turned down 'Barbie' role

This Barbie is dorky.

Margot Robbie revealed she tried to cast Israeli beauty queen Gal Gadot in her upcoming blockbuster because she had such strong “Barbie energy,” but the actress turned her down.

“Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky,” the Australian actress told Vogue in a cover story published Wednesday.

“It’s like right before being a dork,” Robbie added.

Gadot — who was crowned Miss Israel in 2004 and has starred in movies like “Wonder Woman” and the “Fast & Furious” franchise — wasn’t available to shoot the Greta Gerwig-helmed “Barbie” film. It’s likely she was busy filming other projects, including Gerwig’s upcoming “Snow White” film.

Elsewhere in the interview, the “Suicide Squad” star admitted that she doesn’t know if she even owned a Barbie doll growing up.

“I don’t think I did,” she said.

“I know my cousin had a bunch of Barbies, and I’d go to her house.”

“It wasn’t that I ever wanted to play Barbie, or dreamt of being Barbie, or anything like that,” she said.

“This is going to sound stupid, but I really didn’t even think about playing Barbie until years into developing the project.”

When it comes to her character’s outfits, which range from a tight neon rollerskating ensemble to a pink cowgirl set, the blond beauty said the doll “should never be sexy.”

“I’m like, Okay, she’s a doll. She’s a plastic doll. She doesn’t have organs. If she doesn’t have organs, she doesn’t have reproductive organs,” Robbie explained.

She went on to note that Barbie probably wouldn’t “feel sexual desire.”

“She is sexualized. But she should never be sexy. People can project sex onto her,” the “Babylon” star continued.

“Yes, she can wear a short skirt, but because it’s fun and pink. Not because she wanted you to see her butt.”
