The Dallas Mavericks have had a messy last couple of years. Mark Cuban decided to sell his majority stake of the team to Patrick Dumont. Since Dumont took over, the Mavs have made some baffling moves that have distressed the fan base.
Last year, they executed the most shocking trade in NBA history, sending Luka Doncic to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis. Dumont signed off on Nico Harrison’s idea to make that trade, and it did not work out. Davis has now been traded to the Washington Wizards.
Now, there have been rumors that an investor group has been rallying behind Mark Cuban for him to buy back the Mavericks. While the fan base would love for that to happen, Dumont has made it clear that it won’t be happening.

Mavericks Owner Patrick Dumont Won’t be Selling the Team
According to Marc Stein of the Stein Line, Dumont is against selling the team. According to his sources, Dumont’s camp put it pretty simply: “The team is not for sale”.
In fact, Stein writes that Dumont is looking to expand his ownership stake over time in Dallas.
“The Dumont and Adelson families remain fully committed to the Dallas Mavericks franchise and to the Dallas community,” said the source. “They remain focused on building a championship organization for the long term. The team is not for sale, and the families look forward to expanding their ownership stake over time.”
While Fans might want Dumont nowhere near the team after the disastrous Doncic trade, it looks like he won’t be going anywhere. He just bought the team a couple of years ago, so it wouldn’t make sense for him to sell it right back, even if he can’t build the casinos around the arena as he envisioned.

The Dallas Mavericks Are Set for a New Era of Basketball
Cuban made it clear that he would never have traded Doncic. Regardless, Dallas will not be getting him back. They have moved on to a new era of basketball centered around Cooper Flagg, the number-one overall pick. Flagg has been excellent so far this season.
Even with Flagg’s great play so far this season, the Mavericks still have the fourth-worst offense in the NBA. Flagg simply doesn’t have anyone around him who can give him much of a break. Flagg needs a point guard to help him out. Kyrie Irving has missed the entire season as he recovers from his torn ACL.
Without Doncic on the roster, the Mavericks are now going into a rebuild around Flagg, just a couple of seasons removed from making the NBA Finals. Without him, the team has struggled to find an identity over the last couple of seasons.
Dumont is still looking for a new GM after he fired Nico Harrison, who he picks will be key in how fast they are able to rebuild the team into a contender.
