Meghan Markle says she’s restocked ‘a million’ jars of her As Ever jam.
The Duchess of Sussex, who lives in Montecito, spoke to Bloomberg’s Emily Chang to promote the second season of her Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, on Tuesday.
During the conversation, Emily asked Meghan about the sales of her passion project artisan brand, As Ever, which sells orange marmalade for as much as £10.40 and ‘flower sprinkles’ for £11.
Although the former working royal would not share specific figures, she revealed that she has ordered a million jam jars and lids after selling out of some products in less than an hour.
However her latest restock, which launched on Tuesday evening, is yet to sell out.
Meghan said: ‘We prepped for the second seasonal drop and time times our inventory and thought for sure, for sure, that would at least last for a couple weeks. That sold out in a couple hours.
‘And suddenly the conversation goes from, at the start of this year, talking about a few thousand jars and lids, to we need to do a purchase order of a million. And that’s a huge jump in just a few months of starting a business.’
The Duchess of Sussex described selling out of products quickly as a ‘double-edged sword’.
‘It’s an incredible thing to happen for any small business and any startup but at the same time, you don’t get the same metrics and learnings about which SKUs [stock keeping unit] and products are the most coveted because it’s all gone immediately.’

She also told Emily that she was ‘shocked’ when she found out her Californian rosé had been snapped up in just 44 minutes.
The journalist asked the mother-of-two whether the plan was to go global with her business, to which she said: ‘Yes, absolutely.’
She also described scaling up her homemade recipes as ‘tedious’ because of the risk of not maintaining the same flavour or quality.
‘I think any home cook would say that. If you said “Can you make your cobbler that I love?” , “Of course I can make the cobbler” , “Great, can you make a million cobblers? Can you teach someone to make a million cobblers that taste just as the one you have at home?”‘
When Emily asked about pricing, Meghan said it was important to her because ‘I know where I came from’.
She said her ’15-year-old self’ would have been able to afford the $9 (£6.70) jar of jam and suggested her customers could up-cycle the jar by putting ‘flowers or pens’ in it to decorate a desk.
Meghan said: ‘I always think about that version of me. There might be a brand or a person that you look up to and you want to have a piece that they are sharing in the world and that can’t be something that is out of price range, that cannot be something that is so aspirational that you are never going to be able to afford it.’
She also opened up to Emily about her night time guilty pleasure, revealing that after long days of parenting her two young children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, she often ends her nights with the language-learning app Duolingo.

She admitted: ‘My late-night indulgence now is just a lot of Duolingo, it’s great when I can find the time.
‘I’m Duolingo-ing French. I committed to learning it, and it’s really fun.’
Meghan, who studied the language for six years in high school and university, previously revealed she wanted to brush up on her French language skills so she could become fluent.
Elsewhere, Meghan opened up about her nighttime routine with her children, saying they do bathtime and then ‘read children’s books.’
While walking through the Monecito bookstore Godmothers, Meghan admitted she hasn’t had the time to get stuck into a book she enjoys in a ‘long time.’
She claimed her main priority at the moment were ‘kids books and parenting books’.
The Duchess strategically timed the launch of her latest items on As Ever to coincide with the release of her new eight part series, with Love Meghan, which landed on Netflix on Tuesday morning.

However, as her new products were launched on the website it appeared to have experienced a technical glitch, with generic shirts with ‘example product title’ and no descriptions showing on the screen.
It comes after the second season of her series, which features high-profile guests such as Chrissy Teigen, John Legend and fashion expert Tan France, debuted to a wave of lukewarm reviews.
The show, which sees Meghan take on baking and cooking tasks in a rustic farmhouse-style setting, has already divided critics, with many branding it ‘staged’, ‘contrived’, and ‘toe-curling’.
Yet, undeterred by the backlash, Meghan’s team announced new As Ever products will soon be hitting the shelves, with a newsletter revealing the next day’s product drop would include a ‘delectable new fruit spread.’
Previously, Meghan already discussed what she had to sacrifice in order to be a royal, such as her lifestyle blog The Tig, which she ditched in April 2017, a few months before her engagement to Harry.
She linked the decision to the immense changes that came with joining the institution.
When relaunching her lifestyle brand As Ever in February, Meghan said: ‘As Ever essentially means as it’s always been, and if you’ve followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I’ve always loved cooking and crafting and gardening – this is what I do.
‘And I haven’t been able to share it with you in the same way for the past few years, but now I can so, as things are starting to trickle out there, I wanted you to hear it from me first.’
