Micah Parsons did not get to participate in the Green Bay Packers‘ final games of the season, the pinnacle of which saw the team somehow squander a 21-3 half-time lead to go 0-1 in the postseason for the third time in five years.
However, he has remained active on social media – during which he has demonstrated his opinionated nature on a number of football-related topics.
In talking to the press on Monday, Parsons had some pretty iron clad thoughts on the team’s coaching situation with regards to the future of defensive coordinator, Jeff Hafley.
Hafley is a top head-coach candidate for a number of teams in the league, including the Titans, Falcons, Cardinals, Raiders and Dolphins. Although Packers head coach, Matt LaFleur stated that he “fully anticipate[s]” his DC getting a job elsewhere, Parsons had a different point of view when asked.
Micah Parsons Believes Jeff Hafley Will Stay in Green Bay
“Micah Parsons with a smile on Jeff Hafley:” Matt Schneidman of The Athletic wrote on X, “He ain’t goin’ nowhere.” Schneidman quoted Parsons as saying.
Given that LaFleur publicly threw his backing behind Hafley getting a HC job, stating he believes he will be offered one, implies that the team as a whole considers him to be a head-coach caliber member of the staff on defense.
So Parsons’ comments likely refer more his personal belief that even if Hafley does receive an offer from one (or more) of the the five teams he is currently scheduled to interview with, the former Boston college will choose to remain in Green Bay.
And the words serve as an implicit warning message – indeed warning – to Hafley’s suitors to be their next person in charge, from Parsons: he will remain with the Packers in 2026.
Would Hafley Really Decline A Head Coaching Job?
None of the teams that Hafley is interviewing to become the head coach of is what one might consider to be a top-tier job in the league. Each franchise listed has at least one serious question concerning the roster, ownership or executive management.
Even the Falcons and Dolphins – on paper the two most attractive options for Hafley, have serious questions about their respective futures at the quarterback position, given Tua Tagovailoa’s uneven form and Michael Penix’s lengthy injury history.
But an offer to become a head coach in the NFL is not an opportunity that comes about every day, and one bad season for Green Bay’s defense in 2026 could lead to a barren set of offers from other franchises in 2027.
Particularly given that Hafley is a coach on the defensive side of the ball. After the latest round of firings – which may yet to have been fully concluded – there are 24 head coaches still currently employed by the NFL. Only 7 of those are defensive-minded, with the other 17 being on the offensive side of the ball.
Considering Parsons’ proximity to his DC, throughout the duration of the season, it is not unreasonable to believe that Parsons has a good idea of what is going through Hafley’s mind. Ultimately, however, the only person who knows what Hafley will do is he himself.
