A mother-of-one has caused a stir online after sharing her ‘controversial’ parenting rules – which include banning her young daughter from sleepovers.
India Steel, 27, from Wales, shared her parenting style in a now-viral TikTok, and some people dubbed her rules for her daughter Halo ‘mean’.
In the video, which has upwards of 2.7million views, India stated there will be ‘no sleepovers’ for Halo, and explained that ‘no means no’ for the youngster when it comes to hugs.
The mother-of-one also vowed never to force her daughter to finish her food, and said she will always apologise to Halo if she feels she needs to.
But while some condemned India’s rule on sleepovers, others agreed they are taking the same approach to parenting their own children.
India said: ‘The main controversial parenting choice is no sleepovers.
‘On my TikTok majority of the comments, especially the negative ones, were mainly about the no sleepover rule that I have decided to bring my daughter up on.
‘My daughter’s friends are more than welcome in our home but when it comes to her staying away for the night I will not allow it.

‘You don’t know what goes on in someone else’s household or who comes and goes.’
The mother-of-one also explained that if Halo doesn’t want to give somebody a hug or a kiss, she ‘doesn’t have to’.
‘I have brought her up to be independent with her decisions, she knows “no means no”.’
India added: ‘I will always apologise to her if needed, for example if I am over stimulated and I snap at her, or raise my voice – I will most definitely always apologise to her, it is not her fault.

Another said: ‘No sleepovers will keep her always outcasted because she won’t know what happened during the late night experience of sneaking and getting snacks and stuff.’
A third added: ‘You never know what goes on behind closed doors in others homes and who lives there. AMEN TO NO SLEEPOVERS.’
