Despite Universes Beyond overshadowing most of Magic: The Gathering‘s original set drops, Lorwyn Eclipsed generated plenty of excitement by offering some great theming for classic card archetypes. While there are plenty of excellent commander-worthy cards or general setpieces that would go great in just about any deck, a rare few Lorwyn Eclipsed cards stand above the rest for their aftermarket prices.
All prices are based on TCGPlayer’s average $USD market price, and are subject to change in the future.
As usual, the showcase versions of MTG‘s Lorwyn Eclipsed cards are where the real value comes from, as the most expensive cards are normally only in the $10-30 range. Even if these prices are nowhere near what we saw from the MTG x Final Fantasy collaboration, some of these cards are still fetching a significant price on the secondhand market.
10
Bloodline Bidding (Showcase Fracture Foil) — $66.06
While Bloodbine Bidding’s 8 mana cost might seem like a steep price to pay at first glance, combined with it’s $66.06 Showcase Fracture Foil cost, the addition of Convoke to tap your creatures to pay for its mana cost makes this summoning spell a force to be reckoned with for any tribal deck.
Allowing you to return all creature cards of a certain type from your graveyard directly to the battlefield, Bloodline Bidding’s only real drawback is the fact that it can’t be cast at instant speed on its own. Nonetheless, it has plenty of ramp potential for getting you right back into the action after a risky play or devastating board wipe.
9
Bloom Tender (Showcase) — $67.19
Being the only non-Fracture Foil to make it into the top 10 most expensive Lorwyn Eclipsed cards, Bloom Tender Showcase earns it’s $67.19 price tag by being an excellent source of early game mana ramp. Although Bloom Tender is held back by only working with the variety of colors you control in a given game, it’s still an excellent choice for just about any Elf tribal or mana-hungry green deck.
While the lack of a legendary creature status means the reprint of 2008’s Bloom Tender can’t be your next Elf commander, being able to tap for up to 5 mana depending on your deck’s choice of colors is still an impressive feat for a 2-cost creature.
8
Collective Inferno (Showcase Fracture Foil) — $73.19
Being the next of many Convoke-capable spells from Lorywn Eclipsed, the 5 mana Collective Inferno offers the ability to permanently double all damage done by creatures of a chosen type in the form of an enchantment, with some incredibly powerful to turn an already threatening boardstate into an even deadlier one.
While the Showcase Fractured Foil version of Collective Inferno fetches a much higher price, the regular variant of this card only costs a few dollars despite its great combo potential. It’s sure to be a great addition to just about any tribal creature deck with even a splash of red in the future.
7
Glen Elendra Guardian (Showcase Fracture Foil) — $80.42
If you’re a fan of controlling the battlefield or just want to put an easy target somewhere, then Glen Elendra Guardian is the perfect card for you. The three-mana Faerie Wizard with flying allows a near constant source of counterspells so long as you can keep the counters going to feed it.
As if having access to a virtually unlimited amount of counterspells wasn’t enough, Glen Elendra Guardian even offers card draw with its two mana ability, which practically pays for itself through it’s -1/-1 enter ability. While not an overpowered card by any means, you can still get plenty of gameplay potential out of this card while putting just the right amount of pressure on your opponents in the meantime.
6
Harmonized Crescendo (Showcase Fracture Foil) — $96.50
Keeping the tribal train going, Harmonized Crescendo is another excellent convoke-ready spell that can quickly stock up your hand in a pinch, while still having mana to cast your additional cards if you can tap enough creatures to pay for the instant instead.
Although Harmonized Crescendo might not be the most exciting card from Lorwyn Eclipsed, its colorful art shines even more as a Fractured Foil certainly does it some favors on top of being a solid addition to any blue tribal deck.
5
Winnowing (Showcase Fracture Foil) — $100.16
Offering the white version of the Lorwyn Eclipsed Convoke spell set, Winnowing lets you choose a creature for each player and force them to sacrifice all others that don’t match its creature type. Aside from the potential of offering an incredibly cheap boardwipe with the right setup, Winnowing gets even stronger with tribal-focused decks that don’t have to risk wiping your own board in the process.
Winnowing is also the only white color card to make it into the top 10 most expensive prints.
Even if the non-Shocase Fracture Foil version of this card doesn’t reach nearly the same price levels, it’s not hard to see why Winnowing is one of the few Lorwyn Eclipsed cards to actually hit the triple-digit mark.
4
Spinerock Tyrant (Showcase Fracture Foil) — $108.95
If you’re a non-tribal red player that doesn’t want to be left out of the fun, Spinerock Tyrant is another powerful creature with an ability that is well worth its steeper 5 mana cost. Aside from stunning artwork with colors that jump right off the card, a 6/6 creature with flying and wither is nothing to scoff at, but being able to copy your spells is another thing altogether.
For a color built around flying powerful spells, being able to copy your instant and sorcery damage output to any target of your choosing and even convert them into -1/-1 counters has excellent potential for preparing a combo piece. It’s also great for simply whittling down larger creatures you can’t take down in a single sweep with said spells or the Spinerock Tyrant itself.
3
Selfless Safewright (Showcase Fracture Foil) — $118.09
Adding yet another powerful elf into the selection pool, Selfless Safewright isn’t too impactful on its own, but it acts as a multi-benefit protection tool by giving all your permanents of a chosen creature type hexpoof and indestructible until the end of the turn.
Even though its convoke cost means it’s a little harder to pull off if you’re already going wide with a full board of creatures, being able to flash it into play at any moment can come in clutch during board wipes or if you need to keep a commander alive for another round. A unique ability combined with yet another gorgeous bump of Selfless Safewrights value considerably, surpassed by only two others in the set.
2
Moonshadow (Showcase Fracture Foil) — $172.33
Aside from having an incredibly striking visual design, Moonshadow’s offer of a potentially 7/7 creature for only a single mana has incredible potential in just about any format. Although Moonshadow does require more than a little setup, as you’ll have to sacrifice or lose a total of 6 permanents to get it back to its 7/7 prowess, it’s still a dangerous threat if left unchecked on the battlefield for too long.
Given that you’ll already be dealing with your graveyard and sacrificing with black cards anyhow, it’s not hard to get plenty of value out of Moonshadow’s single mana cost, with menace being a little added insurance to make sure it doesn’t get blocked too easily after you do.
1
Bloom Tender (Showcase Fracture Foil) — $387.02
Making its second appearance in the 10 most expensive cards from Lorwyn Eclipsed, the Showcase Fracture Foil version of Bloom Tender earns its place by being an even more gorgeous version of an already excellent card, coming in at a considerable $387.02 at the time of writing.
Without being too flashy on its own, Bloom Tender has some great variety that can land itself in plenty of decks looking for a little extra ramp, which is sure to be an even more common sight after its latest reprints. Even if you’re getting a little disheartened by MTG‘s amount of Universes Beyond sets, Lorwyn Eclipsed shows there are still plenty of unique offerings for Magic: The Gathering fans in-universe as well.
