Renny, Libra and Dan appear in scenes from Big Brother 10.

Summer’s over, and another season of Big Brother has drawn to a close. Big Brother 24 was another decent season for the venerable reality TV series. With so much history, new seasons may lead longtime viewers to ponder the classic seasons. There were a lot of great ones in the early era, but it’s season 10 that’s often cited as the show’s peak.

Big Brother 10 followed the disappointing Big Brother 9, so it was crucial for the show to bounce back. It did. Almost everything was great about season 10: the cast, the drama, the gameplay. It reset the bar every season that followed.

Big Brother 10 Has A Smaller Cast

An aspect of the game that has changed tremendously over the last few seasons is the size of the cast. Big Brother 10 only had 13 houseguests enter the game.

With a cast this size, it is easier to let everyone have their time to shine. There is a little luck in casting that everyone has to be entertaining, but this season absolutely nailed it. Also, the jury only consisted of seven people, which was increased to nine people later in the history of the show. Only seven people on the jury meant the jury members were more involved in the actual game and made a more educated decision as to who should win.

Big Brother 10 Limited The Number Of Twists

Another hiccup that modern Big Brother runs into a lot is adding too many unnecessary twists. A majority of fans want to see unadulterated, classic Big Brother.

Modern Big Brother throws some random twist at the viewer either in the pre-jury phase or halfway through the season. Some of these twists are interesting and have potential but are executed in a mundane way. Big Brother 10 had two twists that did not take precedence to the actual game. They were over with quickly, so they were fun, little wrenches, but they did not deviate from classic Big Brother.

The 1st Head of Household Had A Great Twist

One of these twists occurred before the players even entered the house. Julie told them they had to vote for the first HOH without ever speaking to one another.

Jerry became the first HOH. This was a fun, quick wrinkle that made the game feel a little fresher. However, this twist did not dominate the game and was over with after they stepped into the house. This was not a twist that interfered with the function of classic Big Brother, but just gave the viewers something new on premiere night.

The America’s Player Twist Returned

The second twist that happened that summer was the return of America’s Player, but for only one week. Dan was picked to carry out the wishes of America for seven days in the house.

This twist lasted longer than the first HOH twist, but it did not drastically change the game. Dan’s actions this week did not change how the game was played, but it definitely did change the social network in the house. This twist actually helped Dan out since it saved his future ally Memphis, who was a lucky Big Brother contestant and got his season saved. It was a fun idea that Dan executed perfectly for the viewer.

Big Personalities Dominated Big Brother 10

Since they only cast 13 people, every houseguest could have a chance to become the star of the season. Every single member of the cast had a loud enough personality that would have made them shine in any season.

Players like Keesha, Michelle, and April truly took the show and entertained the audience each week. Renny was a star as she budded heads with Dan, Jessie, and Jerry. Libra was a dynamic player who would do well in the modern version of Big Brother. All of these houseguests accumulated into what was arguably the most entertaining season ever.

Big Brother 10 Turned Up The Drama

With all of these big personalities in the house, it was unavoidable that there would be tons of fights and drama. It seemed like they never stopped arguing.

The drama started on night one when Jessie got into an argument with Renny over how loud she was. The week after Jessie was evicted also saw a lot of arguments. A season that has nothing but fights and altercations gets dull after a while, but the great gameplay mixed into the quarreling makes for an incredible and entertaining summer.

Dan Played An All-Time-Great Big Brother Game

When fans think of season 10, most of them think Dan’s game was the most memorable thing. He started at the bottom of the house and became one of the greatest Big Brother players ever.

Dan knew that he was in a tough situation when his number one ally Brian was sent home in week one. Dan played the weak card and acted like he was terrible in competitions in order to survive the first few weeks. This strategy is a risky one, but it worked for him. He was able to maneuver into a good social spot and was able to align with Memphis.

The Renegades Became One Of Big Brother’s Best Alliances

The Renegades were not always together, in fact, if America chose Memphis for Dan to send home in his America’s player week, they would never have worked together. The Big Brother duo displayed a level of trust in one another that the show may never see again.

The alliance was formed in week four, which was Dan’s America’s player week. They decided to flip the vote on the HOH April and vote to keep Memphis. This resulted in a season-long trust between the two. Their alliance is known to be slightly one-sided as Dan is the memorable one, but Memphis deserves some credit with his veto wins in clutch parts of the summer.

Replacement Nominee Roulette

Dan has lots of iconic moments inside the Big Brother house, but one of his most iconic ones was in week seven. He convinced Ollie to throw the HOH competition to him in exchange for a majority of the control that week.

Dan nominated Jerry and Memphis, at Ollie’s request. When the veto was won, Dan nominated Michelle, against Ollie’s wishes. He made a spectacle out of it, however, as he asked each houseguest who they would want on the block. Dan knew what his decision was before he made it as this was just to keep some pressure off his back and make the others mad at each other. This display showed his intelligence and how he always thought two steps ahead.

Keesha’s Birthday Is An Iconic Big Brother Moment

Keesha’s birthday fight is the most iconic scene in Big Brother history. It included the whole house, but mainly Keesha and Jessie.

Jessie overheard Libra and Keesha talking about April and how she controlled them. He went and told April which started a whole screaming match between the sides of the house. It lasted for a while and ended with the infamous awkward happy birthday song for Keesha. This is what also solidified the two sides of the house and the power struggle for the rest of the season. This iconic argument is truly what made classic Big Brother great.
