10 Years Later, Netflix Is Losing Its Most Iconic Teen Drama Revival

More than a hundred Netflix Originals are leaving the streamer throughout 2026, and we have a first look at some of the titles. Of course, a few believe these original productions are meant to remain on Netflix forever, since they’re owned outright by the streamer, but that’s not the case. One of these departing titles is the platform’s most iconic teen drama reboot, Degrassi: Next Class, which is a direct sequel to Degrassi: The Next Generation (later renamed Degrassi), and the fifth and most recent series in the Degrassi franchise.

It’s been about eight years since the show last aired and close to ten years since it premiered, but fans will have to bid farewell to the drama series next summer as Netflix is removing all four seasons on June 30, 2026. Degrassi: Next Class premiered on Canada’s Family Channel’s new teen programming block, F2N, on January 4, 2016, before being released internationally on Netflix later that month. Season 2 followed in the U.S. on July 22, 2016, while the last two installments premiered on January 6 and July 7, 2017, respectively.

As a Degrassi reboot, Next Class was initially meant to be Season 15 of The Next Generation before the show was cancelled. The spin-off sequel was instead developed as a revival to attract the attention of Gen Z, and it follows the remaining underclassmen from The Next Generation as well as a new set of students. The Canadian drama was primarily created by Linda Schuyler, who co-created Degrassi alongside Yan Moore. Sarah Glinski and Matt Huether served as showrunners.

Who Stars in Netflix’s Most Iconic Teen Drama Revival?

Seasons 1 and 2 of Next Class feature 19 regular roles, with 14 cast members returning from Season 14 of The Next Generation, and 5 new regulars. These new regulars include Amir Bageria as Baaz Nahir, Soma Bhatia as Goldi Nahir, Jamie Bloch as Yael Baron, Chelsea Clark as Esme Song, and Dante Scott as Vijay Maraj. Those who returned from The Next Generation were Miriam McDonald as Emma Nelson, Sarah Barrable-Tishauer as Liberty Van Zandt, Shane Kippel as Gavin “Spinner” Mason, Lauren Collins as Paige Michalchuk, Jake Epstein as Craig Manning, and Adamo Ruggiero as Marco Del Rossi, among others.

Degrassi: Next Class leaves Netflix in June 2026. Stick with Collider for more streaming news.
