13 years ago, Jason Statham starred in a gripping drug crime thriller that’s been compared to Sicario for years, and now it’s finally available to watch for free. Both of America’s most popular free streaming services, Tubi and Pluto TV, have added Homefront to their respective streaming libraries. The film is also currently available to watch on Prime Video. It follows Phil Broker (Statham) as a former DEA agent who moves to a quiet town to spend more time with his family, only to get roped into a dangerous drug conspiracy operation run by a local meth warlord (James Franco).
Homefront is based on the novel of the same name by Chuck Logan, and Sylvester Stallone wrote the script for the action feature. Stallone has confirmed in the years since Homefront released that he wrote the part for himself, but he later passed it to his long-time friend and collaborator Jason Statham after he felt he had aged out of the role. Statham and Stallone have worked together on all the Expendables movies, and even on Statham’s most recent action thriller, A Working Man. Gary Fleder, who recently directed an episode of Prime Video’s Reacher series, directed Homefront.
Homefront was by no means a critical darling, but the film managed to become a financial success, largely thanks to its modest $22 million budget. It grossed $48 million at the global box office, flying past its break-even point and even earning some profit for Open Road Films. It sits at scores of 42% from critics and 61% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Stranger Things veteran Winona Ryder also has a role in Homefront.
Will There Be Another ‘Expendables’ Movie?
Another Expendables movie has yet to be announced, and after the woeful underperformance of the film’s last installment, it likely isn’t going to happen. The Expendables 4 grossed less than $40 million at the box office, despite a $100 million budget, and is estimated to have lost the studio over $100 million. Statham has other action films coming out soon to look forward to, though, like Shelter. The thriller will be released in theaters on January 30, and it’s his first of three 2026 movies. He’ll next star in Mutiny this August before returning as Adam Clay in The Beekeeper 2 at the end of the year.
Be sure to check out Homefront on Pluto TV and Tubi in America, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
